What are the thoughts from the soccer public about the usage of soccer fields being controlled by BRSC? These are public parks, paid for with public tax dollars, controlled by a private club.

Plenty of other park spaces available with soccer fields Independence Flanacher Rd According to BREC....BRSC gets the say on independence as well. Regardless of other parks, my tax dollars still pay for Burbank.

I’m not Orlando. I am tied to GST but am speaking on behalf of every soccer team not affiliated with BRSC. Now I am looking for a good reason

Has anyone even had a face to face conversation? Plenty of scuttlebutt can be resolved real quick when folks sit down and talk

Plenty of conversations have been had. I myself have spoke with Louie to no avail.

Conversation in my head...why does long standing community partner club who invests heavily in the park and has provided a laundry list of services to their local citizens for umpteen years get certain perks while new entity, typically born out of dissatisfaction of a former staff member who thinks, why I am working for someone else when I can be collecting these checks directly and be the one in charge, does not receive equal perks and co-inhabit said park when surely new entity would never dare disrespect established entity by building their business upon slandering established entity via social media and word of mouth in an attempt to steal consumers out of their own parking lot?!?
I get it, this doesn’t reference it being a “public park” but that is why long term community clubs establish contracts in order to prevent make a buck Joe from coming in because its “all about the kids”.
To be clear I have no clue about Baton Rouge BREC/BRSC dynamics and don’t live there so this is not in reference to this situation...just saying, sometimes it’s just funny what people do and say and then don’t understand why things go down a certain way. Have just seen this scenario across the country so many times over the years.

It happens everywhere. Look at City Park and Lafreniere.

It does happen all over. Some people aren’t willing to fight the fight needed. I am asking in reference to Burbank because it is the local park but my question is obviously relevant in other areas. What about the other parks that have soccer fields....BRSC has control over them all. BRSC should put plenty of money into Burbank as they have sole use of it, basically. Tax payer money still funds the park therefore I don’t understand how a private entity controls who gets to use it.

You can use the park facilities other than the soccer fields that are kept up by BRSC. It's called a public/private partnership that increases the economic value of the park to community at large through increased revenue for local businesses. If you want to rent or buy field space then I am sure that you can find a field somewhere.

They do cover the cost of the fields... just like almost every other club that leases field space. More people need to work together to accomplish the goal of increasing the visibility and product on the field instead of all of this in-fighting.

There is a cooperative endeavor agreement that has holes in it to exploit but why should anyone have to go through that. I guess that is the best route.

The clubs make improvements to the fields and run them because they essentially lease the land. Go lease some land, build a soccer field, and go train. That's what Motagua does.

If BREC was the only one paying for upkeep, maintenance, lighting , etc your argument would hold more weight. To my understanding, BRSC provides the majority (if not all) of that as part of their cooperative endeavor. In exchange for providing those services, they get exclusive rights to use those fields. If BRSC didn’t provide those services , Burbank would most likely be just another overrun park that you would have no desire to use.
Find out when the contract ends and see if GST has the ability to step in and provide all those services cheaper than BRSC can at that time. I know BREC would like to see more involvement in other parts of the city/parrish and a more robust rec option for older kids. Long term, that seems the best way to get to those fields

It happens everywhere. Look at City Park and Lafreniere. It happens everywhere....in Louisiana. You don’t see this in publicly funded Parks in neighboring States. You know why?
