Those FAQ’s have largely not been updated since the site was created. Louie Smotherman said in interview recently on MNF that boys will get to play HS.

Here are the current pertinent factors when considering your path: Part-time players are allowed to play MLS Next during the high school season. We are confirming with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) that part-time players can participate in high school soccer and the MLS NEXT simultaneously. The MLS NEXT commissioner reiterated that full-time players are not allowed to participate for their high school teams during the high school season. We are in discussions with MLS NEXT to provide players with as many soccer opportunities and experiences as possible. A few of the considerations we are exploring: Waivers- Depending on the school and requirements, MLS NEXT will approve some waivers for players to participate in MLS NEXT and high school soccer at the same time. In academic institutions where soccer is considered a class for credit, waivers may be granted for participation in MLS NEXT during high school. If a player attends a school where soccer participation is part of the academic institution, waivers may be granted for participation in MLS NEXT during high school soccer. LHSAA clearance- The language in the LHSAA policies regarding soccer indicates that we need to demonstrate that MLS NEXT is sanctioned by US Soccer as a national league and/or showcase events for college recruiting. 😳okay just getting caught up reading thru all previous post, appears the answer on LATDP website under FAQ is indeed inaccurate 🚩

Ok. So I’m a newbie to this site. But is it safe to assume no one commenting actually has a son playing MLSnext. Which is why no one really knows if they can play high school and MLSNext?

Mine is... As of now, the general consensus is that no full-time player is allowed to play high school, but the part time players should be able to.

You are correct sir! Most are here to stir stuff up! Either they are high school coaches that aren’t supportive or coaches of rival clubs looking to stir up controversy to questions they already know the answers to. Yes my kid is playing MLSnext and no a full time player will not be able to participate in high school. TDP gave a great effort to try to accommodate players wanting to do both but in the end administrators with the league ruled against it.

I am not affected by any of this nonsense, I coach HS girls and do not coach club. Regardless, I’ll still gladly go on the record in saying any HS coaches who might be upset and/or discouraging players from participating in MLS NEXT because they are not eligible for HS soccer are selfish, ignorant, and foolish.

Well i hope they have a couple of games MLS Next Games at laf. park on the new fields. Id like to come catch a game or 2 to see the boys play. especially some of the younger age groups.
