Started a new thread and renamed other one because discussion was hijacked.
So waiver requests have to be submitted to MLS Next by each individual player that wants to play HS. If granted, the player can join HS team when MLS Next done in Dec.
Has anyone submitted waiver request as of yet and have any been granted?

I think there are quite a few on the 2005 Boys team that are currently attempting the waiver process. I believe that the players are being told that there is a possibility of them being able to play HS.
#1 - MLSnext has to agree on the reason for the waiver. #2 - LHSAA has to approve of the MLSnext organization. #3 - Student-athletes could only participate during the time whenever MLSnext was not active.
#1 is the biggest hurdle, and I just don't personally see it happening. IF it does get approved (on a player by player basis), I think the LHSAA approval should occur.
Then, like I say in #3, these players could only participate during the times when MLSnext was not active. My understanding is that is essentially during the months of December - February. I believe that MLSnext will begin before the State Championships. Which begs the question: IF MLSnext and LHSAA approve waivers and participation, are coaches okay with players coming in late to the season and then leaving early?

My guess for #3 is that it would be a coach by coach basis.

My guess for #3 is that it would be a coach by coach basis. There is a possibility there wouldn't be overlap at the end of the HS season (it was implied this year TDP would report back 2 weeks after the scheduled D1 Final). If there was, more than likely it would be late stage HS playoffs overlapping with pre-season practice gearing up for early season "friendly" games. There are HS coaches coaching both programs. I couldn't see a TDP coach saying I'd rather have you at practice, I need you to skip the semi-final and chance to play for a state championship.

As long as the player is finished with games:practice for whatever non HS soccer team they are on, they are eligible to start HS. As far as #3, all other leagues in the country are going on during LA HS soccer and again as long as the player isn’t participating they can play. I’d agree any coach worth a darn would want his players finishing up in State semis/finals vs going to a few practices in pre season. Only issue will be the waiver from MLSnext

The waiver eligibility guidelines are as follows and further information may be found in the MLS NEXT High School Waiver: 15
i. The Player received or will receive financial aid dependent on high school soccer participation. ii. The Player has been accepted into a private high school based on soccer participation. Although Clubs are not limited to a specific number of waivers, the number is naturally self-limiting to field a full Team throughout the MLS NEXT Season. Full-time Players registered with a Club who do not meet waiver eligibility and choose to play with their high school team will not be allowed to re-enter the Program during the same MLS NEXT Season after participating in the high school season with their current or a different Club.
I copied this over from another thread. It would appear that in order for a player to get a MLS Next waiver allowing HS participation, they would have to show that they receive financial aid SPECIFICALLY for participating in that school’s HS soccer program. Unless said school can show that everyone in their soccer program received the same benefit, they would effectively be admitting that they are offering a sport participation based financial enticement to attend that school. I don’t see a school being willing to admit to recruiting so easily.

I wouldn’t wait around waiting for any waivers. I’ve heard out of all waivers requested in the whole country last year MLS only approved 10.

Do we expect any more to drop out of MLS Next now that it seems pretty official that they were sold a bill of goods at tryouts when told they definitively could play HS too?

I haven’t heard or talked to anyone who feels that way. If anything I’d say it’s been better than advertised. Training, coaching , player commitment all have been incredible. I don’t expect to see any kid drop out because of high school soccer this year.

Outside of the ones that did earlier on right? Correct I don't think any younger kids will this season U14 and down, but I do know one of the older boys claims he will drop MLS Next if he can't play HS. Time will tell, but that 03/04 team could lose 1 or more.

It is going to be a blow to any school who loses one of these players. Also, while I'm a DS guy, I don't only keep up with DS players.

Exciting weekend coming up as TDP Elite have friendly games scheduled in Houston. While you will only learn so much in friendly competition, this will be the first time these teams take the field vs an opponent. Some very tough competition too. 09s Rise and Houston Dynamo (top 20) 08s Rise (#30) and Houston Dynamo (#1) *4018 teams ranked 07s Rise (#170) 06s Rise (#80) 05s Rise (#149) 03/04 Rise Rankings are based on youthsoccerrankings.us/rankings/National/All/Both/ (adjust up a year, they haven't updated the birth year so 2008s would be under U14 2007) Great way to find out (or show the boys) exactly how much work is needed to compete at this level!

08s fell 4-5 to #30 Rise with a questionable PK late in the game. Very impressive overall.
