This website is 90% angry parents complaining about high school refs. I’m not surprised I'm not surprised by that either. This state has always had a lot to go to get to the level of other states in soccer. Instead, we get these "big fish in little ponds" concerns. Too many players of the sport do not watch the top level of the sport. It shows up in how the game is played at the high school level. Ever notice how most games at the high school level, the games show that neither team is capable of holding possession of the ball for more than 5 seconds? Stringing three consecutive passes is rare still because teams are not coached enough on how to play properly, so they never get players advancing to the higher levels of our nations youth system, since the level of play here is lacking. Then again, other states have these issues as well and to me, the variable most predictive and correlating with that is the level of interest they have outside of playing themselves in watching other games and being analytical about the game. I still see the same issues come up that I noticed when I was coaching or even playing 35 years ago. Our state is not processing enough good play for me to be concerned about it. The game is now also watered down with private vs. public and then split by divisions too much, that I would rather see all schools play for one championship like it was when I played HS ball here. Nevertheless, despite my concerns and lack of interest in the high school game here anymore like I use to, I still want kids to develop as fans of the game. Instead, we see good soccer players get enthusiastic about LSU football or New Orleans Saints, rather than anything to do about soccer, much less our national team, which frankly, most of our top sports media personalities do not even care about, which tells me we have a lot of work to do. We will never be a top soccer nation with such an ambivalent attitude. We need to infect those types of sports fans with nationalistic pride in our game and national team.

Love the passion lads. Berhalter got the tactics spot on and great play from the Captains, past and present. Hope it continues on Tuesday.

I assume a fair number of players are watching the games. I think this board is usually quiet since there are a lot of other places to discuss the US national teams, but not many other places to talk Louisiana high school soccer.
In any case, I think the USMNT is in good shape. They played very well today. And if you'd have offered me the chance that the US would be into the knockout stages with a win over Iran, I'd certainly have taken it.

Qatar with the earliest host elimination ever at a World Cup. Lol. Worst host of all time? Yes

Like what you are doing here usasoccerboy! My family records the games and when I get off work, we immediately start watching the WorldCup. Very difficult to avoid the incoming text from folks who want to spoil our watching…hahaha.
Really liked the way our young squad played against such a deeply skilled English team. TBH, I was unsure if we were capable of that with the way we were so gassed in the 2nd half of Wales.
We had our chances to score and so did they….but the big thing is that we showed the world that we are capable and can step to the stage. WHO DAT…..we really needed to show up and play balls out like that. I am very surprised England just did not get in rhythm and pass around us more and attack hard. They seemed to be happy to hang back, be patient and pick and choose allowing us to save/regain energy. But then again, we won the midfield and played extremely hard winning a lot of the tackles. So many times a player upfield tracked back and poked the ball from behind an English player disrupting rhythm. I was very pleased with how clean the entire game was. No stupid overly aggressive fouls. No ignorant play- just straight up mano a mano play.
Gonna be interesting vs Iran….no one expected Saudi Arabia, no one expected Japan. A lot are expecting US to beat Iran- I am sure the US team will not take them lightly.

Yea, the problem with this cup is that a lot of players are in school, but at least they got this weekend off for the holidays. Working during play sucks too. I love it when the cup is in our own time zone, but even then, they seem to schedule earlier game times than in Europe and Asia to make it easier for tv audiences in Europe to watch. I also think the level of enthusiasm has dropped after us not qualifying in 2018. It is like the media protects themselves from the eventual disappointment of crashing out of the cup. If they do not cover it too much, they may think that it will not hurt so much when we are eliminated. The LeBron James channel, ESPN, only seems to comment on the USMNT when they get to criticize it. I heard Stephen A Smith, who I like, bash Berhalter and the USMNT the other day, because he said their record outside of Europe is abysmal being 0 wins 5 losses, and 5 ties and that when he wants the USA associated with victories, not bad results. Now it is 6 ties outside Europe. This outside of USA record goes way back in our history. We have slightly improved it since Klinsmann’s days, but we still are dissatisfied with our record of results in that department. But that is the challenge we as a nation and association have to break with and overcome. We need to embrace the opportunities like we embrace it going to play at Azteca Stadium. We may not have a great record, but let’s fight to change it.

Great matches today. Been watching on my phone as I go about my work and managed to step out almost every time a goal was scored… facepalm!
Final round starts tomorrow and only France, Brazil, and Portugal have qualified for the knockout round. All to play for still for 27 of the 32 teams (Canada and qatar eliminated). Great television coming. Can’t wait

Mexico break a 7 tournament streak of advancing from the WC group stage by way of goal difference (would have been out due to yellow cards had Saudi not scored).
Ya hate to see it…

Ya hate to see it… And by “ya hate to see it” I meant You absolutely love to see it! Trolololol imagine getting bounced in the group stage. Couldn’t be my team! As I type this Costa Rica is on its way to being eliminated in the group stage leaving USA as the only team from North America to advance to the knockout round. King of CONCACAF

Madness is group E!
Spain and Germany both jump out to early leads only to both concede 2 in the second half! For 5 mins of play Japan and Costa Rica were set to go through but Germany pulls one back and elevates Spain into the second spot on Goal difference! All 4 teams still with everything to play for with 10 mins left. Germany are the only team dependent on the other result, needing Spain to draw or win. Crazy stuff

Japan win group E! Spain finish 2nd on goal difference. That 7-0 whooping (which I attended) turned out to be the difference.
No spain gets to play arguably the easier team in group F winners Morocco while Japan play Croatia.
I love the World Cup

What a great plan by Japan- to hold Spain as much as they could in the first half (0-1) and then come out blazing the Samurai Blue in the second half…..AND IT WORKED!! 2-1 Japan wins!!
WOW!
