I remember the hay days of this website. Classic Gallstar projecting his insecurities on high schools boys, coaches from all teams using burner account to flirt we each other, and so on. Now that I am revisiting the site, I see a lack of activity across the board. I certainly have an opinion on why this is the case, but I would love to hear from some of the experience community members that took part in making this website active. As always, no answer is stupid unless it’s Gallstar slandering underage kids!
- Lots of players posting and trash talking
- Parents starting threads about how great their kids were, then clutching their pearls when reading any sort of negative posts
- Coaches chiming in (and trying to figure out which of their players were posting)
- Referees being smug - The owner of this sight had to hide behind an alias to avoid legal trouble from some referee who wanted to sue him.
- Ex pro players pretending they were God's gift to soccer
- Me figuring out ways to avoid the text filters for bad words
It was a truly wild time. We didn't have YouTube for most of this time period, or social media...this Board connected communication between teams across the state for the first time ever. It was amazingly addictive, to say the least, and it's a shame that the LA High School soccer community won't ever get to experience it again.
The answer to why there was a decline is simple. Most people in general have lost interest in the message board format and moved on to social media platforms because they felt that it was an easier and better way to communicate. The irony is that most people are much more reserved and fake when using those platforms , while on a message board like this, one can be as candid as they like while using an alias, and REAL discussions happen.
