DeRidder played a really good game scoring 3 goals each half, the defense was solid, maintained good ball control, passed and took advantage of opens shots. It was a really good game for DeRidder, haven't seen University play much so I am not sure how this game compared to other games they played this weekend. Yep. DeRidder played well. The key was the first shot by UHS 3 minutes into the game, when Micah Peters shot hit the post, came inside, but didn't cross the line. If it had gone in, we may have seen a different game. Instead, DeRidder scored in 5, 12, and 23 minutes. DeRidder scored three more in the second half. UHS didn't give them much resistance. The shot totals were 12-8 by DeRidder. DeRidder made six out of twelve shots, and that was the difference. The Cubs were still shocked with the last second tie vs. NISH. They were leading NISH 2-1 until 20 seconds left in the game. They were so disappointed and couldn't reset their mind. It was very disappointing that UHS played a game without heart. The credit should go to DeRidder, whether UHS played well or not. Their #10 was a great player, by the way. He scored the last two goals (FK and left-foot middle), and maybe more.

I can possibly start a new thread on this, but I found Showcase's point system intriguing. It went as follows. 7 points for win. 3 points for tie. Plus, each team gets up to three points for goals they made (not a differential). No point for shutout. Maximum is 10 points (7 for win and 3+ goals scored). 0-0 tie earns 3 points, and 3-10 LOSS earns 3 also. 3-3 tie earns 6 points. The system promotes more offense. Since the goal differential doesn't matter, when a team scored three goals, they can let all reserve players as long as they can preserve a win. It was an interesting system to say the least.

Showcase summary:
D1 #2 Brother Martin Did not look near as good as their ranking. They are still a solid squad but they failed to win a single game with 3 ties to Teurlings,Lafayette, and Carencro
#3 Lafayette Looked very good but like Brother Martin the did not finish well enough.
#4 Dutchtown Did not look good at all. They were not able to post much offense at all. Possibly the most overrated team in the Orange division.
#6 Rummel Were not overly impressive. Lost to an average Comeaux squad 2-1
#9 Carencro Possibly the most underrated team in the Orange division. Played well but missed many finishing opportunities.
Unranked Acadiana Got the results but did not look very strong. St. Louis seemed to get the better of them but was unable to finish.
Unranked Comeaux Did not look very strong but got the results against Rummel. Needed a last second goal to beat a weak BRHS squad
Unranked Shreve Tied Acadiana and fell victim to St. Louis' scoring frustrations.
Unranked BRHS possibly the weakest team in the Orange division Did not score a goal the entire tournament
D3
#1 Teurlings were outmatched by Lafayette but proved they are survivors to advance to the finals. Definitely the best in D3
#2 St. Louis Have not had a lot of success but looked like a very organized and effective team. If they start finding the net they are going to give Teurlings a run for their money.
Once again Coach O and the St Louis soccer program hosted a first class tournament!!

Showcase Observation: Lafayette schools > New Orleans schools > Baton Rouge schools North LA schools did better than expected. Teams made the semifinals: Acadiana, TC, Lafayette (Orange), NISH, Barbe, Menard, St. Martin's (Blue)

Acadiana vs Clinton. Acadiana had one key starter that did not play at all due to injury (didn't want to injure it worst for Lafayette Tuesday), and another starter only played teh last 5 minutes due to sickness. I think AHS did pretty good considering this situation and I truely believe that Acadiana should have won if they had those key players. Ofcourse we wont find out now though, but I think the game might have been a little different outcome.

guru I am going to have to disagree with you lafayette did not look good at all and that was the general opion amongst the parents and audience of the Brother Martin and Teurlings game. They should have lost the Brother Martin game, but they were saved by a very lucky goal on the second string keeper. I just saw the first half of the Teurlings game but lafayette looked horrible. One of the parents did tell me they are a second half team, but I don't know it was not what I expected out of them.

I agree that Lafayette did not play well against Brother Martin, but how can you say they didn't look good against TCH? They completely dominated the entire game including overtime.

The ball was either going to be passed accross the box to a wide open forward, or it was going to be scored near post. The keeper cut off the pass, so the foward made the easy near post goal.
