The poll for the NSCAA is done by caoches in that state who are members of the NSCAA. A person in charge of a region for the NSCAA will call some of the coaches in the states of their region and ask them who they think the top teams are in their state and what their records are. Some could say that this poll is biased, which it can be, but as long as the coaches who vote are objective than the votes can be taken for what they are worth. It is hard to jugde "national" rankings on the high school level because very rarely do teams in a state play teams from another state. Basically it's great for college coaches who are recruiting to look at to see what teams they need to watch in a certain area. My friend here in Memphis coached the #1 team in the country last Spring and they were nowhere near as good as St. Louis, Lafayette, Jesuit, etc, the winter before. So obviously there are some flaws but these rankings have no measure on who will win or lose at the end of the season.

Yeah I think the only national rankings that are good are the ones for club because you travel all the time and they can rank tournaments and rank you based on that.

Fiction... almost all northern schools are already done with their high school season. They play in Sept and Oct with playoffs in November. Very few states play the high school soccer season during the winter months. There are some states that allow the schools to decide to play in different seasons. However, the majority of the high school season is played during the falls months. What i was told last year about this "national poll" is that LA teams get recognition because of the northern teams not starting their highschool season yet? Fact or Fiction???

St. Louis were ranked for the Winter season, notice I said the Spring season. In Memphis the girls compete in the Fall and the boys in the Spring, no one in Memphis competes in the Winter which is when Louisiana competes and that is why I said what I said.

from what I understand, you can play 20 games. Tournaments are counted as 1 match. So, play 3 or 4 tournaments during the high school season and add in your district matches and include whatever non district games you can get. That can add up to alot of games. If you ask me way too many games for a high school player to be playing because of the wear on the body and mind. (yes, the wear on the body for injuries and the mind for being able to stand up to the academic requirements in the classreoom). But for all those that call me stupid... like I haven't had to deal with this in the past. Tell me what's more important... player safety and academics or high school soccer games. (Lakeview... sorry for giving you such a hard time in my last post. I think is was in the refs post. I just like to poke fun and it can come across a bit harsh at times. No hard feelings meant. I like to stir things up with certain topics.) rb -- good post! what is the rule on number of games that can be played in a season. I know you can play 3 tournaments. I think La plays a winter season b/c of the availability of the football field. Football coaches say their players get mixed up by the funny lines. Not many states play in the winter. I believe it is less than 10. Florida has one season (same as La). Texas has a private school season (same as La.) and the public schools start in January.
