15 minutes before kickoff--both teams look relaxed and ready. Field is dry but missing a lot of grass. Looks to be a good crowd filing, already around 500-600 in the stands.
No rain coming, but very windy. Wind is blowing cross field

Sure would like an update. Maybe someone else at halftime, besides coachray, can get online and provide an update.

It was a very enjoyable game to watch. Both teams came to play and Vandebilt came out on top. Congrats to them and to EA for a fantastic season.

WEll sorry about the lack of reports--had everything cooking, and then had computer problems....technology sucks sometimes.
Good game by both squads, but I thought the officiating was poor. Vandy came out faster and had most of the run og the early play. First goal for Vandy came on a great free kick from just inside midfield that got flicked on by an onrushing forward into the net. Pretty goal at the 7 minute mark of the first half. After that EA gathered themselves up and started to get some momentum. They generated attacking pressure, but never really got a good shot. Game went back and forth until 5 minutes to go when Vandy forward went running into the box lost control of the ball, got tangled with the EA defender and PK was called. Pitiful call for PK--and I'm going tell any of you that disagree that you are WRONG. PK was made and then game continued with no fireworks till half. Half was very brief, and teams started back up. 8 minutes into the half Kevin Torres was called for a foul at midfield, was booked and Vandy got another long range free kick. Ball was played in, and it looked to me that it was handled by the Vandy player--I wont swear to it, but thats what it looked like to me. Regardless, Vandy player turned and banged it in and that was really it. Vandy kept numbers back the rest of the way, and EA pressed but to no avail. Game ended up that way.
Both teams played hard and congrats are in order for each. I do think Vandy deserved to win the match. Figured a 1-0 final in Vandy's favor would have been more appropriate. Either way, congrats to the Terriers--they deserved the title, and congrats also to EA for making 2 consecutive runs to the state finals.

I also thought EA fell victim to midfielders/forwards trying to do too much individually in the first half. Players would attempt to dribble in too much traffic leading to quick counter attacks by VCHS when shut down.
In the second half EA went on about a 10 minute run where they got into more of a rhythm working the width of the field.
VCHS really played a more settled second half with a bit more control on possession.
EA was really deflated after the PK--but other aspects of the game decided the outcome. Vandy's defense really contained EA for about 85% of their runs and when they played the long ball. EA had opportunities, but few and far between.
Great game by both teams--and great seasons--you don't make the finals back-to-back by coincidence. EA will bring a lot to D1 ball next season!

Yep, this was a great game to watch. EA played extremely hard but Vandy seemed to have an answer for everything that EA tried. I would say that they possessed at least 70% of the time. Although all of Vandy's goals came off of restarts (beautiful header off a 40-50 yard free kick, PK, and another well placed free kick that ended up in a scramble in front of the EA goal then slammed in) Vandy pressed hard enough all game to earn these opportunities.
Vandy's defense was rock solid. Although Vandy was not as potent as last year they surely were head and shoulders above the Division II teams this year.
Yep, I can remember #7 from Vandy having all he could handle from a U14 BRSA team last spring. He is quite a player but a BRSA team took that Houma Heat team in the finals of Red Stick in overtime in 8 PKS! Then Houma returned the favor in the State Finals taking the same team 2-0.

Congrats to both teams on well played games... The 3rd goal the keeper was taken out of the play and as coach ray said was handled by a vandy player. but even at 1-0 it's a win for Vandy, so congrats to Vandy and EA on great seasons!

Maybe if EA got as close to the goal as Vandy did they might have been given couple goals too! Hell no................Vandy earned this win. I saw it. EA played hard and Vandy was just the best team out there tonite! The score could have been 1-0 but they still dominated the possession of the game by at least 70%. Vandy was not given any goals. They pressed hard enough to force EA into a couple of mistakes in front of the goal/ inside of the 18.

I have the game on video if you'd like to watch it The whack PK gave Vandy a 2 goal lead, enabling them to drop more players back on defense and keeping EA out of the goal. Without that pk it could have been a completely different game.

The PK happened after numerous attacks on EA's defense. EA had #7 marked pretty tight by Guillory and he did a great job. However, Vandy and #7 did a better job of creating opportunities by pressing hard (corner kicks, free kicks, throw-ins, etc.) Vandy stayed in their flat four the whole game but never did they stop pressing.
I did see EA run 3 forwards but Vandy's four defenders worked together to stop any significant threat. EA did have one very good look but the ball was slid across a little too late and their forward was caught off sides inside the 18.
