Three from St Pauls -- and they lost 10 games this season. Coach W. is good about going to the meeting that count! (Course, Bro Tim did it also)
Now that I look at it closer, Caoch D also did well.

6 First teamers from the northshore, and coach of the year. 5 from southshore, with the MVP. Wow, only 1 from the lafayette area, and 2 from BR. these are fairly suprising

Who was selected for DII and DIII?

First, the 3 Jesuit forwards who made 2nd team should all be on first team with Frank. Second, the 2 northshore defenders on 1st team should not be there. Third, Coach Hubie should be coach of the year with no doubt.
Looks like only the northshore coaches went to the meetings.
This team could of been a lot better with several great players being left out.
Seems like if your one of the best players on your team and your team makes it far in the playoffs, no matter what you make all state.

That's how it has always been. Good players from not so great teams don't get recognized as much.

it seems hard to vote on these types of things when alot of the coaches dont know all the nominated players

I think each coach should select 5 players from thier team to vote. I think the players should vote. The players know whos good and whos not.

If your going to knock the results of the voting, at least know what your talking about as far as the process goes. The coaches do not vote on the all-state team at a meeting. Our meeting is where the results are distributed.
A ballot is sent out to each LHSSCA member. Every person who joins gets a chance to nominate players and then vote for 14 players.
If you want a better representation of the state on your all-state team, tell your coach to get involved and join the LHSSCA. This will allow them to vote.
If you want to gripe, go to your coach and ask him if he/she was part of the process. If not push them to join and get involved so that you, the player, will get a fair shake.
Don't blame the coaches who are involved for voting for the players that they know and have seen thru the year. If it were not for their vote, we would not have and all-state team.

How come and a coach who won the State Championship undefeated and only let 5 goals scored against his team in 32 games NOT win Coach of the year? And how come and the best offense in Division I has NO players in the all state 1st team? All this just proves one more time that all this is subjective and basiclaly means nothing. Like it or not, the Jesuit coach is the Coach of the year and you can put whatever players together from any other schools and they will still lose to the Jesuit team this year.

Here are some ideas that guided my voting: Simple--just because your team has the most talent and wins doesnt mean that the coach did the best coaching job. Hubie is a great coach and did good job this year, but most coaches would be able to achieve with with talent level at Jesuit this season. Some of you folks who support Jesuit regularly tell all of us here that Jesuit is the most talented team in the state, and that nobody compares. Maybe true or not but either way, you set the table for this kind of voing result. I always look for the coach who did more with less. Anybody can coach talent, it takes a COACH to get players to do more and believe more than they are usually capable of. I think Trevor Watkins is a great choice, because through the year we could see St Pauls improve steadily. Early in the season there were concerns over the scoring, depth and Goalkeeping of the Wolves. As the season progressed, they got better and it showed on the field. Watkins put together a great run through the playoffs, and I think he's deserving of this award. And for the record, I didnt vote for him--I voted for Lucious Brumfield at Acadiana, who I think did an equally great job with a very young team. As for the offense comment, I dont see that at all. Jesuit had a solid consistent offense, but I wouldn't consider it the best. We regularly heard how some games should have had more lopsided scores with better finishing from Jesuit. I couldnt even name 1 forward from Jesuit. I also think that your arguement holds little water when you see 3 Jesuit forwards picked for second team. All four guys chosen for 1st team forward were big time high profile finishers who scored on most teams they played against and were certainly the people that you were most worried about when you played against thier team. All four of these guys would have been able to start as a forward at Jesuit. I think they are great picks Now defense is another story--Jesuit was clearly the best defense in the state, and maybe the nation. When we talk about this Jesuit team in the future, we will talk about their defending, not their attack. I think the voting clearly showed the states respect for Jesuits defending, with 2 defenders and its GK making first team. Duncan also gets MVP, and deservedly so. I think all of the choices for first team are excellent ones, and all of these kids would have excelled with whatever team they played with. The thing I like about all of these players picked is their class and humility. Thats what sets a good player apart to me in terms of choosing all state--character.

Being on the All-State team is more about selling your name to the coaches. If you're an impact player from the south, and there's a coach from the north from ODP or similar, you have a better chance of being selected, don't you think?
Also, I'd like to think it's good practice to spread the honors around, beyond just the team who won state....that in itself is a great honor.

coachray i do agree with you that coach of the year should be who did the most with less in most years; however, dont you think that hubie had to do an incredible job to keep his players so focused that they could go 31-0 and only allow 5 goals doing it?? this in itself is a feat that may never be beaten in the state's history but it isnt good enough for him to get coach of the year?? yes i agree that coach watkins did an excellent job and i can see him getting coach of the year
but one of the jesuit forwards should have been on first team chris cabos scored 15 goals overall this year....how many did torrado score or the guy from Fontainebleau?? no offense to torrado but i think he made simply on reputation this year it seemed like he only had an average year this year....but im not hear to second guess the voters

Sebastian finished with 27 goals and 14 assists this season--thats a bit better than "average", and almost twice the total of Cabos. Only guy in Metro Baton Rouge to score more than him was Fred Parker from Tara
Sebastians #s for his career: 16 goals as a Freshman, 20 goals as a sophomore, 30 goals as a Junior, 27 goals as a senior. Total of 93 for his career--second only to Jason Garey at St Amant.
C-bass was Division I, District 4 MVP, and Metro Baton Rouge Player of the year. I think he got 1st team all state on a little more than past reputation

first congrats to the members of the all state team both 1st and 2nd. all of these players are deserving of the honors.
that being said i do think more coaches should get involes in this process. i think there are several players from the state that are just as deserving as the one on the team now.
