Do you think that the MLS will ever get as big as the English Premeir League? If so how long do u think it would ttake to get anywhere near it.

Presonally MLS will never get as big as them for the fact that Soccer is not a popular sport in the United States... However in the next twenty years it may if more and more players start playing the sport
Once soccer gets more players more people will love the game and more people will start attending/watching the games

If the US team does well this world cup and in the 2010 world cup then I think that will really get soccer going in the U.S. Look for us soccer to really start growing...not as big as the EPL, but still, really grow...within the next 10 years.

Congrats to 1st Touch. He moved to 17th nationally in MLS Fantasy Chal.! Sat. he had the 7th best performance nationally!
I agree that soccer's popularity is growing in the US but I think it will increase faster than we think. for example:
Prev US World Cup teams have had a few US players with international experience. The team fielded against Honduras the other night was composed almost entirely of US players actively starting in the EPL, the Bundesliga, and other top european leagues.
The best (and arguably the 3 best) keepers int the EPL are American. 2 WC's ago there weren't 3 American players at any posit. in the EPL.
Against internat. teams in the past the US would bunker down and try to defend their box relying on an occ. counter. Against Mex. & Honduras the US dominated midfield play and if they'd been lucky would have scored twice the # of goals they did in both "friendlies".
On a local level think back a decade (or 2 if you're my age) at not only the increase in the number of anklebiters that now seem occupy any open field after school and on weekends, but also at the # of soccer nets in your community. I remember not too many years ago there were 2 soccer nets in Monroe. Now there are nets at every high school, as well as most schools in general, and in any park, and even a new complex at Chennault Park. Look at the large complex on Nicholson in BR.
Look at soccer inLA. On this message board soccer in south LA is considered "superior" to the north. This only mirrors the spread in popularity in the sport ie it became popular in the south first. Hence facilities were developedthere first but more importantly enthusiastic coaches who "knew" soccer came there first. This is now happening (spreading ) in the north part of the state in both rec. & varsity soccer. Although some will come and go increasingly more soccer programs take root establishing a tradition of their own. I think it's great.

soccer is definately spreading in Central Louisiana. Alexandria will soon have a new soccer complex up with about 8-12 new fields and an open stadium that will seat 2000 people. This is a major breakthrough for Louisiana. With this, Alexandria can hold many more tournaments and help to further soccer's popularity in this part of Louisiana. Slowly but surely Crossroads is helping to develop this area.

Well with only 2 weeks left in the MLS reg. season 1stTouch has all but wrapped up the LaPrepSoccer Div. in the MlS Fantasy Challenge (ie the fantasy soccer league of The Sporting News). He is currently 33rd nationally and the only question is whether he will win an MLS Official Match Ball or the EA FIFA 2004. If I were him I'd sandbag for the video game. Anyway, congratulations. Maybe next year.
