Caddo Magnet (1-0-0) began to defend their district title tonight, with a 7-0 win over Southwood (0-2-0). Caddo Magnet, using a 4-4-2 formation, had an offensive burst in the first 15 minutes, scoring five goals (Palczynski-2, Rew, Dale, Fell). At the beginning of the game, Southwood tried to play a defensive game, putting up to eight players in the back. After halftime, Caddo Magnet stayed in a possession type of game, while Southwood tried to attack. Southwood had various quick players that had the speed, but not the touch. Two early second half goals by Vaughan and Walsh put Caddo Magnet at seven goals. Caddo Magnet comes off a semifinal loss to Dominican last year, and are ranked fourth in the latest poll. Southwood, with a loss to Captain Shreve, is looking to notch their first district win on 12/8/03 against Airline (1-2-0). Caddo Magnet will be in action on Thursday, playing Natchitoches Central (1-0-0), who most recently upset Captain Shreve.
