in regards to acadiana beating barbe, lafayette, and st louis: the same player from acadiana had the winning goal in each game. in the barbe game she scored the second goal in the 2-1 win december 16 she scored the goal in overtime to beat lafayette 1-0 december 19 and she scored the goal to break a 2-2 tie with 5 minutes left to beat st louis. december 20 all this in 1 week. who is she??? and yes i think acadiana in the top 10 is a good vote Wasnt that Courtney Hofland. She scores like every goal. Actually, I looked back at old stats and found out it was Jessica Verett, a junior.

IF Lafayette had not beaten STM in the Tournament held at Moore Park perhaps one could justify putting STM above LHS. However LHS won and deserves the #1 title St. Amant played at home on a poor excuse for a soccer pitch and were still out played and out shot by the State Champion Lady LIONS

Taking the state winners to PKs counts for something. But in soccer there is always a few games where the ball doesn't go in the net. St. Amant was probably the worst match-up for the Lions in playoffs. St. Amant was good. I don't know where they stand in the top 10 but they were good. But the better team won the match.

These are my picks and why. 1. Lafayette 2. ST. Thomas Moore - very young - Laffy beat them will be top team in the state in any division next year. 3. Caddo Magnet - toughest team Laffy played in the playoffs 4. Baton Rouge - saw them play STM - best girls soccer game I have had the pleasure to watch. 5. Sacred Heart - Laffy played in N.O. tourney 6. Vandebilt - Laffy played in N.O. tourney - tough 7. Barbe - rival - heart - never quit attitude 8. Acadiana - RIVAL - enough said 9. Mt. Carmel - not enough time to jell this year - only reason their season ended when it did. 10. St. Amant - played everyone tough - especially at home - different story on a field the size of the state championship game was played on.
Can't comment on Mandeville - didn't see them play - always a talented team. Fontainebleau - overated - need to play someone other than Mandeville - try DISTRICT 3 teams - any of our top 5 will do. Only MY Opinion.

Left out Newman - did not get to see them play, but heard a lot of good things about that team. Don't know where they would fit in though.

My meaning behind the term overated was due to the fact that FHS was rated #1 most of the year and hadn't played quality opponents. And you have just proven my point. St. Scholastica is in a down year. Then beat Northside high school in the playoffs - which did not win a game this year until their first playoff game. The score was 6-1 with ten minutes left then the Northside coach put in 3 girls that were seniors and hadn't seen much time this year. East ascension - saw them in the St. Martins tourney - Barbe beat them 6-0 - average at best. Vandebilt - quality opponent. I guess i just expected to see more ball control from the #1 team in the state at the time. I did not expect to see boom ball all game. Saw last years game against Mt. Carmel at FHS and saw super forwards but not much more. Sorry, good goalkeeping. I think you are right that FHS will be a team to look out for next year, but I just expected more. I'm Sorry.

Fhssoccerfan if the hurricane had anything to do with what I’m getting ready to say I apologize in advance. The road to a state title in Division I is a formula of talent, good coaching a little luck. In addition, you must play more than 20 games to get ready. Within district, teams usually have one, two or possible three quality teams to compete against. A good program seeks out (3) strong tournaments and quality games to prepare for a late district run and/or playoff tune-ups.
These days in Division I playing less than 25 games vs. mostly average opponents will NOT spell success in the end. So next year, let go of your mama’s purse and go out into the big bad world and play someone that will help you achieve what you want!
I didn’t think you were overrated as much as you were under tested. Had your team been pushed you may have been in Lafayette for the last game on the field and not in the stands!
Good luck to FHS next year as I can promise you will be tough to beat no matter who you play, just seek them out and play them!
Oh by the way your goalkeeper is an awesome player and a solid kid!

SOKERFAN, sometimes you need to see more than one game, depends on time of season.............
"East ascension - saw them in the St. Martins tourney - Barbe beat them 6-0 - average at best. Vandebilt - quality opponent."
EA went 1-6 Barbe, 1-5 ED White and 1-1 St Martins in that tourney, they were experimenting with a new defensive system, same as with Fountainebleau game.....all to disasterous effect.
Ties with St Amant and Sacred Heart looks better, as does a semi final 0-1 loss to Vandebilt who are indeed a "quality opponenet."
The point being, do not judge a team on a few games, especially one as talented as FB. I am sure they will be stellar next year, and anytime I saw them play, they were an offensive machine.

Newman should definitely be in the top ten for the following reasons:
1. They won Division III State title. 2. The 2006 title was their third straight. What program can say that? 3. Because of Katrina, their season consisted of only 8 games prior to the playoffs. 4. Their starting 11 consisted of 5 freshman, 2 sophomires, 1 junior and 3 seniors. 5. Coaching - with due respect to the Sacred Heart coach that has received so many glowing comments on other postings, the Newman coach pulled the pieces together that numbers 3 and 4 above presented to he and his team to win it all.

Instead of taking swipes at people pick a top Ten and Defend it. I didn't see enough of the teams outside of the BR area to make an intelligent decision on who belongs on the top ten list. So for a rare change I will keep my mouth shut.

Parkview should get consideration for the following reasons. Won 18 and only lost 4 games, all to state-semi finalists or higher (Sacred Heart, Vandebilt, Mandeville, Lafayette). Tied BRHS, beat St. Joes, St. Amant, etc. Some great teams this year in all divisions - makes this thread great. Best all-around team I saw was Lafayette.

The best quality teams I saw all year came from the Lafayette area. Well done Lafayette area in producing the quality. I don't want to discredit any other area especially after the year Louisiana as a whole suffered, but I do believe Lafayette does deserve a lot of credit.

Who votes on this b/e there's two other quality teams that deserve to be there, Vandebilt and Newman.
