Yes it was. Today's game was the third game between the two schools and each was won by Sacred Heart in a shootout. These teams need to always play on a regulation size field though--Newman's field is much too narrow & the sideline near the bleachers is too close to the fence--pretty dangerous.

McGehee went up 3-0 at half time. St. Martin's made a few changes at the half. They put more pressure on McGehee on the second half. StM pulled to within one goal with about ten minutes left to go in the game. A player from StM got into it with a McGehee player and then got into with the ref about a call. The coached pulled her out and then McGehee scored two goals in the last six minutes. Not to take anything away from McGehee, but this one of the best McGehee teams in a long time.

It is amazing that one player can have that much effect on her team. It's a shame that see can't keep her head on her shoulders. A lot of respect to her coach for sending this type of message to the player. I hope the player realizes how much she is needed for her team.

Monday January 15 7:00 PM Tioga vs. Peabody. Peabody forfeits OK....I'm little late on responding to this, but why does this result not surprise me. If they cannot field a team that can compete with 11 players, they do not need to field a team at all. To forfeit a district game is embarassing...to the school administration, athletic dept., coaches, and most of all the players that DID show up and want to play. Peabody has forfeited two games already that I know (this makes three) of, and that, in my opinion, is disgraceful (not meant directed to the players and coaches actually wanting to play soccer). To Tioga....be thankful you play in a district that has numbers....we up here in 2 - 5A will never ever get any respect or consideration until we field more teams. ANDS...we have to improve alot as well .... I was assuming that was implied but before some of you jump to the keyboard I will acknowledge acknowledge that. Get that team out of your district(oh yes...good luck on that....since all of us soccer "people" have so much clout with LHSAA ). Go to your AD or principal. It cheapens your good record of wins losses!

Newman's field is much too narrow & the sideline near the bleachers is too close to the fence--pretty dangerous. Everyone's been saying it for years. it was the same, small and cramped, back when I was playing in 2000.

It cheapens your good record of wins losses! Is there a limit set by the LHSAA as to how many times a season a team can forfeit in a season before they are penalized. I have read where not only has this team had to forfeit games but they also have to play many games without fielding 11 players. I hate to see a program fold but this is not really fair to other teams in the district. Also I know sam houston and deridder have a long trip to their school and it would be a shame if they got their only to forfeit. I know that this has got to be hard on the coach, and the players that want to play maybe they could play co-ed or something

I do know that the boys' program is doing better with numbers because it was strongly suggested that football players try out for the soccer team. I don't know what is going on with the girls. The had a better showing last year when they were on probation. The principal is behind the program but there is only one coach trying to do boys and girls.

Maybe the principal could strongly suggest that track/cross country athletes play soccer to stay in shape. Peabody is a basketball school, so their top athletes are playing hoops right now. I hope they can get some interest soon, as this is a severe problem, especially for the teams that travel two hours to play.
