if your school has middle school as a part of it they are allowed to play without losing elegibility. Normally an 8th grader isn't going to affect a varsity game at this level i think that's why the allow it, but I do know a girl that has 6 state championships in softball so maybe they do. Eitherway LHSAA allows without a loss of elegibility.

Sooner:
You are correct about the eligibilty issue. The number of years counting towards eligibilty doesn't start until ninth grade.

Misltek: you obviously did not see the same scoring play as Sooner and the rest of us had seen. The Vandy Goalkeeper DID NOT MAKE A MISTAKE---she had already dove outstretched and stopped a goal on the far right post and got right up and had to dive in the opposite direction (which she did) and almost stopped the score. Her defense was no where to be found as they were all still on the other side of the net. As far as the mid-field official goes---he was terrible for both sides. He was not consistent at all and was not fair to either side in this game. When he yelled at the UA coach and said the things he said, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE GAME. The only thing the UA coach did was try to make the mid-field official wake up. These two teams were evenly matched and UA did have more finesse but both teams played with heart. Oh and by the way, in the 56th minute where misltek says UA missed an open net--misltek again does not know what he speaks of because it was a one-on-one with UA approaching and the Vandy keeper did exactly what she was suppose to do----she came way out and cut off the angle which worked because the UA shot went wide of the net. That keeper did a great job on that play--she stopped the shot by cutting off the angle. Please!

PutMeInCoach2 My question centers upon the premise that if an 8th grader plays in a varsity game, then she has technically used up her first year of varsity elegibility. She would then only be elegible to play in 3 of her next 4 years in High School. They probally answered this above me, but I will go ahead and answer it again. A player below the 9th grade is allowed to play on the Varsity squad without using their "eligibility years." These years are only for high school students (9th thru 12th). However, the requirements are that the Middle school student (below 9th grade) must be under the same Principal of the High school. Please correct me if I am wrong, however that is how the rule was explained to me.

UA's coach is lucky to have remained in the game. When the UA player was injured late in the game and he came onto the field, do any of you know what he told the center referee? Probably not, but I do.

You know it is actually amusing that both Vandebilt and Ursuline didn't think much of the referee. He was terrible and did not have control of the game. At times he was in the way of the play as well. No body won or lost because of him but when you get to that level of play you would think that they could get someone who could call a game. It was pitiful. I don't care what the UA coach told him--he probably deserved it and besides it certainly was prevoked. I hope he told him like it was...

I really need to know the answer to this Misltek, since the President, Principal, and AD of Ursuline were in Attendance at the game!

Greatfan you are correct! the vandy keeper played a truely inspired game and we are very proud of her. Cutting down the angle was exactly the right thing , yes the net was open but the ua player didnt have the angle to hit the far post. It was a great play on both players part. She made no errors that game at all. Sooner, Thanks I know it was hard on them to lose but it is all ok because they lost knowing they played hard and got beat. The refs, terrible!(both ways) I know Winston and know the type of coach he is so if he did say something to the center ref it was deserved. We really hope ya'll do well the remainder of the playoffs.
