I know that you are using this forum to communicate with each other, but reading your posts has really expanded by thinking of the game. I just wanted to thank you for using this public forum and I am going to direct all the soccer parents that I know to regularly visit and learn about the art and science of refing.

You are most welcomed. It's also our job to educate.

Soccerprofessor, we can even go a big step forward. Just recently, LSA rolled out a program designed to increase referee retention by attempting to reduce referee abuse from parents, spectators, coaches, etc. The biggest part of the program consists of awareness and education.
The program is called ROOM, Respect Our Officials More and is based on the FA program called RESPECT which has the same intentions. Our program tends to copy theirs and uses some of their materials.
The education component is directed to parents, coaches, spectators, administrators AND referees. We have a few programs available on request at no charge to any group. One of these presentations is very simple one hour presentation giving basic guidance on the Laws of the Game. While brief, it has opened many eyes on what referees are being taught and how that varies from what parents/coaches/etc think. We can do this presentation anywhere in La at no charge. One needs to only ask, set up a date and place and we'll be there.
We also have another presentation called "Referee Coach Cooperation". It can be presented to coaches OR referees and gives some provides some basic understanding on how to "get along", for lack of a better phrase. This will actually be shown at the LSA Summer AGM this coming summer as part of some LSA Coaches workshops.
The FA program has already shown some very good results. It is our understanding (and to our knowledge) that La is the first state to have this type of program and it was presented last weekend at the USYSA Workshop in Austin. Now many states are asking questions and looking to start a similar program. We have more materials being rolled out soon as part of this program.
They have created several videos. These two are my favorite and really have quite an impact when viewed. FA has really spent some money on this program.

Those videos are great. I recently posted one on the Lafayette Referee homepage. www.lra-soccer.com
