Wow, SSA lost to a team with only 4 players.
Please note the irony and sarcasm here.

This was a well played very competitive game and could have gone either way. The first goal was scored on a nice shot by Kim Moreau from about 30 yards out that sailed just under the crossbar. SSA was still celebrating when Mandy scored the equalizer less than minute later on ball that was being kicked around inside the 6. Things picked up offensively in the second half with both teams having more chances but neither team was able to score until the 69th minute when Delaney Sheehan sent a nice through ball to Elizabeth Manuel who was able to put it away. Coach Esker moved some players around from their first meeting. Striker Delaney Sheehan moved to a center mid postion. It certainly bolstered the mid field for Mandy. It was an interesting decision to move the team's leading scorer to mid field, but it worked.
The game was well ref'd and was very clean for the first 65 minutes but got a little out of hand towards the end. There were several hard challenges including a few in the box where either no call was made or the decision was questionable. The CR lost his composure and actually screamed at a player and followed that up with threatening to toss a parent. No player deserves that. Use the yellow card if necessary.
All in all it was a great game. Both teams have the potential to make it to Tad Gormley.

Wow, SSA lost to a team with only 4 players. Please note the irony and sarcasm here. When MHS and SSA played in early January it was observed that Mandy was a bit top heavy(pardon the pun). Some thought that to be a highly critical comment about the "other" starters. What is ironic is that adjustments were made to correct that situation. In short it was just good coaching.

Ok, you got me, it was five players and two refs. And, I heard the fifth player was a little tired the next day from all the extra kicking duties. And, the ref thing was not just from parents, a lot of other spectators thought there were a lot of no calls too. Especially, the slide tackle from behind that occurred in the box. A reporter even thought so as mentioned in an article. Its all good, a split for the season, and now off to the playoffs. Good luck to FHS, MHS, and SSA!!

Didn't SSA lose to FHS because of refs as well? Apparently the other team is never better on that given day.

Not true, when MCA beat us, they were certainly the better team that day. But, since you brought it up, two senior starters were missing when they played FHS the second time. There was no mention of refs in that game. In the FHS game, if you take away the fluke play when the ball was attempting to be cleared, and struck the FHS player, the score is tied. Nevertheless, that's the way the ball bounces. Playoffs will reveal all.

No 2 referees call matches exactly the same. By this point in the season teams should be able to realize if a referee is calling it tight or loose and adjust their style accordingly. Failure to do so after tomorrow means your season will be finished.

I just brought that very point up on another thread. The further you go into the playoffs, the more professional the refs. which means all fouls will be called.

Actually the official who was on that match is professional and a state referee. And not all fouls are called, as advantage comes into play , and officials should not also call trifling fouls. For a foul to be called, it must be reckless, careless, or be excessive force. I'll take the official close to play and reading the play over a fan or coach that is half a field away every time, and trust his/her judgement is correct. And don't forget that everyone at the game except the officials are for one team orthe other, so their impartiality is suspect while the officials isn't

Okay, since you brought it up, would a slide tackle from the rear, in the box, where the player can hardly stand up as a result of being tackled from behind constitute reckless and merit a foul. And, if you're referring to the CR as professional, you were not at the game to see him belittling and embarrasing a player in front of hundreds of people. He totally let the game get out of control and lost it.

Hey Sarge, The state (and MSC) needs all of the good referees it can get. Have you ever considered taking the course and helping out?

According to sarge SSA has never lost a game. They just ran out of time.
The blind homerism is telling.

There are times that a loud public admonishment is appropriate, especially if the quiet ones aren't working and it sends a message about the player crossing the line of what is appropriate and saves the issuing of a card. Unless, of course, You are suggesting that the player had done nothing whatsoever the entire match and the referee just chose her out of the blue for no reason at all.

happyjack, were you at the game? Do you know what I am talking about? I'm not saying that he picked her out of the blue, actually, this was the first time he called her down the whole match. And, it was not about repeated behavior on her part, she was merely running back to her position after the call. She did not tell him anything that warranted his display of anger. He merely lost his cool.

So you are saying that the entire match a word was never said to or by her and suddenly he just "lost it" and for no reason went berserk yelling at her? Sorry, but I have a hard time following or believing that story.

happyjack, believe what you may, but unless you were there, I would not be too quick to judge what happened. If you knew the player in question like I have for numerous years, and saw what happened, you would certainly change your mind. I believe fans from both sides who surprised at his outburst. And, think about it, had she done anything you might want to suggest, don't you think she would have at least received a card if it was bad enough to warrant his actions? Think what you may.
