With the playoffs right around the corner I thought we could get some good debate going on where "your" team should be seeded. While records are important, there are teams that test themselves against good teams while others play their district schedule and pad the rest. As a coach I feel like this will be a difficult year to seed due to an overall lack of information and discussion this year on the girls side. While the top 15 may be pretty straight forward the rest are not easy to distinguish between.
I will start with my own team and maybe others will follow suit with some good info...
Captain Shreve - currently 3rd in district 1 with a 4-3 district record with Magnet left on Monday. Have played at least 4 different formations and countless player combinations and have finally found something that seems to be working well for our group.
The facts: 11 losses with two being to unranked opponents this season. (Byrd, Magnet) 2 losses to STM - top 5 D1 3 losses to Byrd - top 12 D1 arguably top 10 1 loss to Magnet - top 15 D1 1 loss to Loyola - top 5-7 D2 1 loss to DeRidder - top 10 D2 2 losses to Neville - top 7 D2 1 loss to Calvary - top 7 D2
1 win vs DeRidder - top 7 D2 1 win vs West Oauchita - top 10 D2 1 tie vs Loyola - top 5-7 D2 1 win, 1 tie with Parkway - top 10 D2 2 wins vs Southwood, Airline 1 win vs Sulphur 1 win vs Alexandria
Besides the STM games and 2 of the Byrd games we have competed well and are playing our best soccer right now. From looking at the results of other D1 teams it is very difficult to rank other teams with much better records that have played a much easier schedule out of the top 15. I would say Shreve should be seeded somewhere between 19 and 22.
State your case and help a coach out!

As noted on my Seed Thread, I would seed SJA somewhere in the 8-9 range -- for the following reasons:
Overall record of 20-4-1. 12-0 and district champions.
4 losses are to Div. I/No. 1 Mt. Carmel [twice], Div. III/No. 1 Sacred Heart, and Div. I/No. 3 St. Thomas Moore.
Quality wins are against Div. II/No. 3 St. Louis, Div. III/No. 2 Catholic High New Iberia, Div. III/No. 3 Episcopal (BR) [twice], Div. III/No. 8 U-High [twice], and Div. I B.R. High [twice].
Tie ag/ Div. I Dutchtown [Leah Aultman missing from that match].

I'd put BRHS in the 13-15 range. 10-2 District record with losses to Lafayette, Mt. Carmel, Dutchtown, U High, Teurlings, and twice to St.Joe's. This team gelled later in the season and put up a monster fight in two matches with SJA.

I think everybody knows Dutchtown is better that the 11 ranking with that whole 1 player making a difference thing going on. We shall see. The team is actually pretty young and the sophs and freshmen, especially on defense are inproving every game.

The Northshore Lady Panthers thoroughly deserve a high ranking in the playoffs. With a number of close district games against top-5 teams (Mandeville, St. Scholastica, Fontainebleau) and #1 Mt. Carmel as their only losses on the year, a few that ended in overtime or pks, they have proven that they can compete against the best (and should be included in that designation as well). I am glad that the rankers/rankings have given them the respect that they warranted throughout the year as they have consistently been in the top-10.

Both barbedad and wild2120 have Live Oak seeded ahead of Zachary. Zachary dominated Live Oak in their first match 6-0. The second match was on a flooded field. Live Oak won a sloppy game 3-1. Zachary's schedule was much stronger, with close matches against Baton Rouge(twice), St. Joe, EA, St. Amant and others. I just don't get it if you compare the schedules and results.

I know something of these teams. Zachary did win the first match over the Christmas holidays 6-1 when Live Oak was missing several starters. Live Oak won the re-match 3-1 when most everyone was playing. Both played comparably against us. Both have outstanding scorers in Charity Simmons [Live Oak] and Katelyn Hunt [Zachary]. They're very close. Neither is more than 2 spots from the other seed wise.

Byrd Lady Jackets
I see Byrd being able to break into the top 10 although at the 9 or 10 position. Competed with 6 of the top 8 teams in Division I, although losses, didn't run from the competition:
Loss to STM 3-1 early in the year and 2-0 in the semi-finals of the St Louis Showcase Loss to Madeville 2-1 in Holiday Classic Loss to Fountainebleau 5-0 in Holiday Classic Loss to Dominican 1-0 in Holiday Classic Loss to Mt. Carmel 2-0 in Holiday Classic Loss to West Monroe in scrimmage at first of the year 2-0
Quality Wins: 2 Wins over tough D1 and fellow district member Magnet should be in top 15 of DI 3 Wins over quality district competitor Captain Shreve arguably in D1 top 20 1 Win over (at the time) number one ranked DII, Teurlings Catholic at St. Louis Showcase 1-0 1 Win over top 5 DII Neville, 2-0 2 Wins over top 5 DII Loyola, 4-0 and 4-0
District I Division I Champions

Thanks for opportunity to promote our team. We are very young team with only 2 seniors and 3 juniors. As far as seeding it is very hard to estimate when you are outside the top 10 and not having a complete power ranking to look at. But it makes a huge difference to those of us outside the top 10 to get an accurate reflection. Based on results, I would place us near Terrebonne (between #17-#21??). Thanks!
Natchitoches Central Lady Chiefs Record: 11-3-1 District: 4-2 (Second place behind West Monroe)
Notable Results from season Wins: Vs. Menard (3-0) Vs. Morgan City (2-1)
Draw: Vs. Terrebonne (1-1) in Rebel Cup – Terrebonne advanced on PK’s
Losses: Vs. Ruston (0-1) – Second game of season, outshot them 19-2 but could not score (goal on PK) Vs. West Monroe (0-1, 0-3) both home and away, good team

If you can't be top seeded, go for 32nd. To be the best, you have to beat the best, so get it on! Sounds crazy, but think about it. If team is healthy, why go thru a few easy games and maybe accumulate injuries. I like it, 31 or 32. Knock off number 1 or 2 right out of the gate and you have good shot at making a deeper run. Call me sick. If you think about it, most schools give too much credit to winning a district title, when the ultimate is being the best. Sometimes we sell our kids short by not painting the "vision". Have the fun associated with district titles but it is only the stepping stone!

Dominican should be seeded #4, #5 or #6.
We have a quality wins over Fontainebleau, Vandebilt, Byrd & West Monroe.
We have losses to St. Scholastica, St. Thomas More, Mandeville and twice to Mt. Carmel.
Both losses to Mt. Carmel were in shootouts after both games ended 0-0. In the losses to Mandeville and St. Thomas More both were by one goal; 0-1 & 1-2 respectively. In the loss to St. Scholastica we were missing many starters, but none the less we still lost 0-6.
We also tied Lafayette and Sacred Heart 0-0.
I believe that Mandeville, Mt. Carmel, St. Scholastica & St. Thomas More, in any order, should be ahead of us by pure results against these teams.
You could rank us as high as #4 with our two recent results against Mt. Carmel. For 200 minutes the games were scoreless.
You could rank us #5 after all of the teams in Division I that beat us throughout the season.
You might possibly rank us as low as #6 after the teams that beat us and Fontainebleau. However, if you were to rank Fontainebleau ahead of us because they won the Northshore District which includes the two team's that beat us then you might want to rank us #4 if you rank them (Fontainebleau) as high as #3.

Pope John Paul II should be a top 10 team. We are 11-1-0 in our last 12. We are co-district champs at 9-1. We beat a very good Northlake Christian 4-0. If Northlake is a top ten team then Pope is a top ten team.

You're killin' me aliceshoe1 (I can't stop it), how many times do we hail our kids (in all sports) by making it to the playoffs or to the second round and bowing out. Bow out big in the first round or shock the world! If you've never been to the playoffs or it has been a long time, I do understand you build from the playoffs up. I am not talking to you anymore, you get me too stirred up!!

aliceshoe, hat's off to you. Not only are you making me sick but you are truely making me wish i never got involved in this great sport. What's sad is that i'm lowering myself to you're level by responding to you. Why all the hate!! Quit living your past short falls through these kids. The kids aren't the problem, us GROWN-UPS are....

talkischeap, I know from a competitors stand point you mean what you say, but we all know the 31 & 32 ranked teams have NO CHANCE IN HELL to score much less win their games. And this is why some of us think it is crazy to have 32 teams in the playoffs. In the first round, for example, teams 29-32 will not only be overmatched but you can't make me believe that these girls believe they can win. And now that the weather is going to be as bad as we think, I can promise you the better teams will have their starters out for most of the game getting warm while 29-32 will still have their starters in wondering why they are out there losing 8-0 and in the cold. And then make the long trip home.
So from a motivative standpoint "GREAT JOB". Realisticly, C'mon Man.

Why are there 32 teams in dIII? Some of the teams have only 2 or 3 wins and are only in because they play in a good district. They have little chance of an upset. Just seems like a waste of resourses.
It seems like 24 or less would be better .
