Quoting sockerfan there, Alice....all things considered, Northshore and Lafayette going to overtime shows me Northshore deserved to be there!

As the coach of the Northshore Lady Panthers, I want to congratulate the Lafayette team and their coaches on a very hard, well played match. We wish them the beat of luck in the playoffs.
To my girls....Thanks for a great year and I could not be any more proud of you guys.
And YES! We deserved to be there. We've proved more than once we can play with the best.

Game Summary
Lafayette gets a breakaway and is turned down by NHS keeper 1 minute into the game. NHS dropped on defense and stayed on their side of the field for most of the first half. Laffy scores with just under 19 minutes left in the first half. Go into half time with Laffy dominating possession.
Second half NHS applies pressure and it's a back & forth, then NHS scores with I believe just under 6 minutes left in regulation. First overtime NHS scores and goes up 2-1. Laffy comes back and scores about 1 minute after the NHS goal, 5 minutes and some change left. Second overtime Laffy applies pressure and scores off of a bullet put back by Anne Brennan from just inside the 18, Laffy 3-2. That's the way the game ends.
Both teams played hard and didn't want their season to end. Congrats to NHS and Coach Jeff he did a fine job. To NHS Keeper, glad you are moving on. You played a FAN-tastic game and saved it from being over in the first half. Good luck in your college career.

Sounds like a great game to watch. Congrats to N'shore for battling back & going ahead in OT. Great poise & resiliency by Laffy to come from behind. Maybe N'shore was a place or 2 better than a #10 seed.

sonic3, congratulations on a great season. I know what you will be losing in the form of your GK, but, hopefully you will return the nucleus of your team. I also hear you will be getting some spectacular freshmen next year. I have watched your team for four years now and have been extremely impressed with their improvement over the years. I'm sure you will return next season to once again become a force to be reckoned with. Good luck in the future and great job representing District 7.

Lauren will be very difficult to replace. We are losing 6 very talented seniors total. Luckily, we have a lot of underclassmen returning to build on. Our last game against the Doves we started 4 seniors, 1 junior, 1 freshman, and 5 sophomores. So our future looks very good with the outstanding incoming freshman class next year. Best of luck to Mike O and the Doves in the rest of the playoffs. Also, good luck to the Skippers and the Dawgs. Bring home ANOTHER State Title from District 7. As SJADAD says, the "District of Death"!

Sonics.....you have at least 3 very talented players coming that way if the Boyet junior high girls come to NS. I coach against Boyet's team and they gave us fits.

Just noticed the humble pie remarks. After watching the game I have to conclude, I was right. Sarge384 the defense you talked about is good but they weren't that good in the first half. Just 45 seconds Laffy had a breakaway, (yes she was faster than the defense) had a point blank shot and if not for Lauren's great save it would have been 1-0. That was the inexperience of a freshman forward that hasn't learned to put the ball on the ground back post against someone that is over 6 ft tall. It could have been over early if that had gone in. It would have been 2-0 at half.
The Lafayette team had 26 shots to 10 for NHS. Balls that hit posts to great saves by Lauren of NHS. The Lafayette defense over shifted 1 time and an NHS played capitalized by following up the play and finishing. The other was when a Laf player tried to clear the ball and it hit a NHS player in the face, she fell to the ground and the Laffy team just stopped (mistake, play until the whistle) NHS didn't stop, they finished the play. It has nothing to do with the speed of the forwards or the strength of the defense that kept NHS in the game. It was the competitiveness and the heart of the team. As long as Lafayette allowed them to hang around they were going to find a way to win the game.
I think the difference in the game was when NHS took the lead in the first overtime, the Lafayette girls didn't put their heads down, they scored in less than a minute later. This was the first time this year that they had been behind and won the game. They either played from ahead or come back to tie. It was a really good game to watch. It was kind of like NHS was doing the rope a dope in the first half and came out like Rocky Balboa in the second half. Whatever blows they were dealt they got back up to fight some more.
This game will do wonders in the long run for those underclassman for both teams, that is what a playoff game should be like. And nothing less. Good job by both coaching staffs and players. I felt a couple hairs turn gray in the overtime periods.

just wondering reading this if the weather was much of a factor? it looks like each team was able to dominate for a half of regulation and then overtime.

It was Alexcia Alexander the freshman foward that ended the game in over time on the six foot keeper.
