Okay, I'll bite. Northshore has had a great season but all good things must come to an end. Northshore has played only 6 true battles this season (all losses to district opponents) where Lafayette has taken on all challenges. Will be close at the half but the speed of Lafayette will be too much for NS in the second half with Lafayette taking this one 3-1.

Don't be too hasty barbedad20, Northshore has played three of the top five teams in DI in FHS, MHS, and SSA and lost by one goal to SSA twice in overtime. (Their losses to FHS were by one goal in regulation and in PKs, and the MHS loss was once by one goal in regulation and once by four goals.) The three teams I mention all have speedy forwards and midfielders. You under rate Northshore's defense, they are very athletic, and there forwards are pretty good too.

I think this is the upset of the week. Lafayette has had trouble scoring on top teams all year. Mount Carmel, St. Thomas More, Dominican and Fountainebleau have all held them scoreless. Northshore has been in a number of close games. If those weren't district games, they would have ended in ties. I think this one comes down to a shootout. With Lafayette missing their starting keeper, I think this one goes to Northshore.

Northshore also played Mt. Carmel, the #1 seed, at the beginning of the season and lost 0-1.

barbedad - Correct again (don't you get tired of hearing that?). Laffy should win this game at home.
sarge - Good points. Dist 7 is a tough road. N'shore as #10 seed is where they should be.
archangel - Also a good point. Historically Laffy is not an offensive team (sokerfan notwithstanding).
N'shore GK is very good, and her defenders are solid & disciplined. It's almost impossible to play dump & chase against them.
Bottom line - N'shore is good but IMO Laffy is slightly better. This game IS NOT a lead-pipe lock for Laffy. N'shore has a good chance at winning win if they play their best & Laffy stumbles.

archangel, points well taken. Of the teams mentioned, STM had 1 shot on goal, a header that went in. Lafayette dominated STM, according to some STM parents. Mandy ended in a 1-1 tie, but Lafayette had more play on the Mandy side of the field (60-40). Sokerfan - My daughter has played club ball against many of the players on the Lafayette team. They are very good players and fine young ladies. I wish them the best in this and any future games. Also, thanks. You helped me win a bet with my wife! I intentionally included the reference to STM holding Lafayette scoreless, and bet my wife that we would hear one more time how Lafayette dominated STM, and lost Seriously, though, I think you inadvertently make my argument. By your own account, Lafayette dominated STM, and outplayed Mandy, and didn't win either game. Glad to hear about the "ace in the hole". I would hate something like that to affect the outcome.

Question is can Laffy handle one of the best runners (speed and endurance) in the state that made 1st team all state as a FRESHMAN. 3-2 NHS Sockerfan has already answered your question. With Lafayette's new freshmen additions in offense and the new freshman goal keeper, yes they can. ;D

^^Both of you make very good points speedy and nounited93. Lafayette and Northshore have both benefited from some great freshman additions. However, freshman can only carry a team so far in the playoffs. It comes down to how the upper-classman contribute as well. And with Northshore having such a solid defense I gotta give this one to Northshore. 2-1

I consider this the game of the week on the girl's side. NHS takes this in a hard fought battle by 1... they know how to prepare for big game situations better and will prove that tomorrow night.

This will be a battle in the midfield, not knowing alot about lafayettes midfield other than watching some of their club games i think that they are about even. i see that this is the part that will win the game. whoever can win the 50/50s, control the tempo and slide the through balls to "their speed ". will win.
Brasilboy- i agree. game of the week on the girls side
2-1 Northshore comes from behind.

^^ Well said ginger. Whatever team can take more advantage of "their speed" will win this game. Both teams have great speed up top, but it is the midfield who will determine which forwards will get the best passes to execute on.

^^I also agree with ginger. The wingers and the centers will determine the end result of this match. Both have great ball control and vision, but it all depends on which team's strikers show. This game will not end up coming down to who the "fastest" is, but rather who can execute "their speed". As brasilboy31 and ginger have pointed out. On another note- Northshore has had alot of tough competition through out the district season, and can play with the best of 'em. They are also very good at playing from behind. Just when they seem to be giving up they set of a rocket that leaves everyone on their toes. This is going to be a match people talk about long after its over.

Which ever team comes out ready to play will win, nuf said. If laffy scores, look for them to hold the lead rather than building on it

I just question why people seem to think that Northshore's defense is so "great". There is that word again. Didn't Mandy just put 4 up on them. And hasn't FHS & SSA put goals in on them? FHS, Dominican and Mandy didn't put any in other than a PK for Mandy. I think the question is can NHS beat the Laffy defense.
And about speed, ask Dutchtown & Baton Rouge from last year if they remember the name Melanie Rabeaux. Because she shut down the studs that went on the major colleges last year. And she has done it again so far this year. Unless FLO JO is out there no one will out run her, guaranteed. First team all state last year for a reason.
In the words of a boxing announcer, "Lets Get Ready To Rumble". (And I don't mean in a fighting way)

sokerfan, obviously you have not seen too many games involving teams from down south. Some of the forwards down here might make you change your opinion.

I remember getting ready for a boys game and i hear GOAL for our girls and then about 10 seconds later goal for the other team. If NHS wants to win they gotta get their lead and hold onto it

It will be served, either at home in Lafayette or on a bus ride back to Slidell.
As Cotton McKnight would say "it's time to separate the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys, the awkwardly feminine from the possibly Canadian."
