Canthelpit and reddevil, the last thing I want to do is embarrass my daughter or her team so I will stop posting. Reading. Back some of my comments makes it obvious that I don't belong here. Thank you for your opinions.

Yeah, nice posts canthelpit and reddevil70737, you should be proud. I guess everyone must see things through your eyes. Do you even know the joy of having a daughter play in a prestigious soccer program?

Reading. Back some of my comments makes it obvious that I don't belong here. Thank you for your opinions. watsagriffin - For some posters, it is obvious who their favorite team is. For others, not so. It was obvious that you were pro Dutchtown. You talked about them and defended them with passion. Did I agree with you - No. But I don't think you were out of line.

Thank you for your opinions. Think its pretty bad that you chased a person off of the forum. There are tons of people on this forum (both boys and girls) that have very bias opinions and so this particular person may have made some comments that were a little "lacking facts based" in your eyes (and others). If we judged on that basis, hell just about everyone on this board would have to be "slammed". Shame shame, they were just supporting their school and their daughter, and they were new to the board, maybe their post would have grown with their membership.

Well said OldHattrick3...my feelings exactly. I happen to know who watsagriffin is...but I don't believe he knows that. And yes...he is new to the board along with his daughter who is a sophomore at Dutchtown...a beautiful young lady and passionate player who continues to develop. Summer has been a wonderful addition the Lady Griffin Soccer program and although my daughter graduates this year...I look forward to seeing her and the rest of our players young and old next year.
It is quite a shame that this father feels he has to bow out of the board so quickly due to others on here making him feel bad for his opinion and thoughts. He never once claimed to be the "soccer know it all"...and yet some people here thought it necessary to blast him. And not once did he ever insult another player as I have well seen done in my past four years reading this blog.
Some of the posters here do quite well with their recaps of games. That is something very useful for those of us that do not follow all of the districts or teams. The information keeps us "in the loop"...but as for others...you can give impression that you are merely here to bully and vent ugliness. Be mindful of what and how you post as there are players reading this and sometimes your thoughts can come across as just mean and/or nosy. It can make a player really question what they have done that is so wrong.
With that said, I wish all of the teams and all of the players young and old a very successful high school experience. For some...it will lead to great memories and for others...great soccer futures!
Signing off... Lexi Gibbs' mom from Dutchtown Soccer...keep kickin!
Geaux LSU!!

Oldhattrick3, very well said as well. I also am new on these boards, debating how to respond to someone dredging up months of attacks against someone who was trying to go out of his way to say in as inoffensive manner as he could what he thought (and admitting that he could be wrong). I too did not want to embarrass our daughters or schools by engaging in a flame war over issues well hashed out on these boards in the past or this one. And no one should ever be attacked for praising their daughter esp. when it is not done at the expense of another.

Dang. Tough crowd up in here.
That said, I'd say stick around. If you frequent message boards at all, you learn to develop a thicker skin, to engage in honest differences of opinion with those willing to talk and to ignore those looking to bash.

Mandeville 3, East Ascension 0 Thanks to St. Paul's School for being very gracious hosts and East Ascension for being worthy opponents. Everyone relax. This is a wonderful forum, lets keep it that way. Back to the game. Full credit to Mandeville, we gave it everything we could. Thought EA had slight edge in possession, not shots, in the early going. MHS converts on a nice FK to take the lead. They get a little fortunate to score shortly after on a deflected shot. Moreso as starting all-dist senior GK was unable to play due to rib injury. Freshman GK Lynda Boylan had 6 minutes notice that she was starting and played a super game. HT Mandy and deserved of total play. Rain continued to pour down. Second half, i felt between the 11th to 24th minute was critical. EA hanging on by a thread, Mandy hits post, couple point blank saves from Boylan, while still trying to manufacture some offense on a sometimes unassured defense (if i may say, without offending). Having morphed from a 5-3-2, to a 4-3-3, clock is ticking with 14 mins left so changed to a 3-4-3 trying for that hard push. Of course, a tired defense is now having more questions asked of them and the third duly comes. 3-0. Admired the pluck and courage of my Lady Spartans as we fough hard hard till the end. Seniors- Alyssa LeBlanc, Chelsea Griggs and Jennifer Flores - we shall miss you dearly. Very best of luck to Coach Esker and Lady Skippers the rest of the way. You are a few tweaks from making a run the whole way. Rest in Peace, #10 Eldi Franco. We played with heart for you.

Passion is what makes great athletes, Watsagriffin please keep yours! No reason not to post your opinions, I would hope/expect you to continue. The last time I went to any LA Prep blog there was no mandatory reading, if someone’s blogs “drive you nuts” simply do not read! Most of our resident experts on-line have a tremendous amount of knowledge learned from years of watching their daughter play soccer, somewhat similar to staying at a Holiday-Inn Express! I would recommend that people that are easily driven nuts and obviously have lots of spare time get a Face-book account to share their feelings!

Read this whole Board and holy cow! I guess I have a unique perspective having been a coach (licensed), referee and parent. My favorite posts were the ones expressing how well a team played (even if losing), and talking about the class of the other team and their parents. My daughter knows players from so many different teams that we can hardly play anybody without her having a friend on the other team. Does she want to beat them - YOU BET. After the game, they laugh and talk. During the game, they go hard at each other. As parents, we need to have the same attitude.
Now for the referee issue. I would like to think that referees DO NOT play favorites. However as a coach and a father, I have seen some ridiculous calls that as a referee I knew were completely wrong. As a referee, I know that I have blown calls; it happens. I have made plenty of parents mad. (I annoy some of my referee friends too). I also know that I have made tough calls against my home team that has cost them the game. Not fun to be the hated man on your own campus. Yes, I have my favorite teams, but come game time, I call them like I see them.
EXAMPLE: In a D1 tournament championship game, I (center) enforced an offside (disallowing a goal) called by the (young) AR, who put her flag up, but dropped it before I recognized it. Brief conversation, and the right call was made. The coach was extremely angry with me (as my daughter remarked "he booed you.") The team lost by that goal. As luck would have it, I drew the same team about a year later as an AR in a championship game. The coach recognized me about halfway through, but I had already made three or four calls (correctly) in his favor. Could I have been biased - You bet. But how fair is that to the kids on the field. They play hard and with their hearts. As a referee, I never want to be the reason a game is won or lost. Sometimes, it just happens that way. Most of the referees that I know, feel the same way.
Here are two points that I want to pass on to parents:
1. Referees miss stuff. We cannot see everything. Sometimes #3 runs right in front of us when the foul happens. We do our best. I would suggest that you look for consistency. If the ref is consistent, he has done a good job.
2. I stand on the sideline and listen to parents howl at the refs. I shake my head. In the MCA/Dominican game, the contest went to PKs. The first Dominican player took her shot before the whistle blew and sailed it over the crossbar. The referee correctly gave her a retake. The MCA parents screamed their disapproval. Since the whistle had not blown, the play never started. If she had scored, the goal would have been disallowed. Sometimes the right call is not popular, and we the parents do not always know the rules as well as we think we do.
Good luck to all of the remaining teams. And for those who have been eliminated, I appreciate the passion with which all the girls play. Job well done.

Great post, milesbb. A few weeks back I sat by a parent at a game and he kept getting upset at this call or that. Until I explained to him why the call was made. He then said "ok" and was at ease with what had happened. (until the next "blown" call, of course - LOL).
Again, well said.

Well said milesbb.
I personally love soccer refs. They have the absolute most impact on any game. They can either let everything ride or tighten the game up from minute one. As long as it is consistent the entire game, I am happy on the sideline. When we travel for playoff games, I just ask to get a solid local crew.....choosing not to believe that there are refs out there who would intentionally throw a game. Caddo Parish refs recently did a wonderful job proving my point....at least to me.
I make it a point to shake their hands after every game....even when I am fuming...because I know it is a thankless job, you can't get everything right even with instant replay, and most importantly.....we can't play unless they show up so keep em happy!
I would especially like to say thank you to all the refs in the Baton Rouge area for a well called season and always showing up on time and prepared. Very professional.
PS - One of you Griffin parents should talk Whathisname into coming back on. It's a forum for opinions and though I don't post mine much, I am an avid reader of them. The more the merrier.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that for playoff games, the coaches discuss beforehand where the ref crew will come from and agree on it.

Usually from an area both coaches feel comfortable with - usually taking away home locations traditional referee crew.
