Updated Predictions ;D:
1 Mt Carmel vs. 8 West Monroe- Can't ever count the Rebels out of anything. Playing real good right now. Carmel's been stead at it as well. 1 Mt. Carmel over 8 West Monroe +2
2 St. Thomas More vs. 7 Lafayette - Dec 20th STM beat Laffy 1-0, now looking at a return match here, so how does it come out St. Thomas More over Lafayette +1
3 Mandeville vs. 6 Dominican - Have to like this matchup, met in Nov with Mandy winning 1-0 I see this one pretty even Mandeville over Dominican E
4 Fontainebleau vs. 5 SSA - Man, what a game we have here. F-Bleau took the two district mtgs 1-0, and 3-2 respectively in route to the district crown and a 4th seed. This would be a heck of a semi-final. Can they accomplish the hard task of beating a quality team for the 3rd time in a season. Fontainebleau over SSA E
1st: 13-3, 2nd: 6-2, 3rd: 1-3, Overall: 20-8

Played or seen six of em, definitely these are the best 8 rightfully left in the dance.
Mount Carmel in much closer one than one would imagine. WM super solid, but MC is best team I have seen all year.
Haven't seen STM play, but always know they quietly go about their business. Laffy ability and local rivalry factor makes it a game. STM by 2. Would be interesting if went to OT. Lions recent experience would help.
Mandy - Dominican. I think the tightest game, with Skippers winning by a single goal. 2-1.
FB - SSA. Hmm, everything goes out the window. 3rd times a charm for Doves?

Really proud of the community support for this game. Lots of Cougar & Lion fans as well as other local schools showing support at this game. Was a real exciting game from start to finish. It is just a shame that you have to watch girls that you have seen play for years leave the field crying, realizing what could have been. There are many friends on both of these teams and you hate to see them this way but they are tough and will bounce back. Great season STM, Congratulations.

Anyone watching the LAFAYETTE vs STM game? Please explain how they allowed EIGHT-NINE MINUTES EXTRA TIME? When LAFAYETTE'S girl was only down 2-3 MINUTES???

Bet you dollars to doughnuts your watch kept running after goals were scored. High school rules stipulate that the clock stops on made goals and re-starts on the ensuing kick-off.

That may be the case but I have NEVER SEEN THAT MUCH EXTRA TIME

The NFHS rules state that the clock should stop for goals, cards and injuries. In a close game that should be the way it is. In a one-sided game it should be that way also, but it doesn't make as much difference and some refs won't add stoppage. Regardless, 8-9 minutes of added time is a lot in the absence of an injury that stops play for an equally long time.

If that is the rule it's inconsistent application.

I put a stopwatch to see how much added time to expect before yelling at the ref, and the injured player was down 3 minutes 15 seconds. I again started my stopwatch when the scoreboard struck 2 minutes and 10 minutes later the ref blows the whistle. I can promise youone thing, neither coach knew how much time would be added. They were both thinking 2-3 minutes. There were 5 goals in that half though, I don't know what the normal time added per goal.
aliceshoe1, it is simple. If Mandy wins they TRAVEL to Lafayette, and if Dominican wins we travel to New Orleans again. Either way, players and parents are ready.

While he might stop his own watch, over many years, I don't ever remember a HS ref signalling the clock operator that time stopped . I would venture to guess that most coaches, players, fans and clock operators do not know time should stop for these occurences in HS soccer, so they just all watch the clock run down to 2 minutes and then the ref takes it from there. The ref does not announce how much time is left, though he might if you ask. Maybe we can get the fourth official to hold up the board announcing stoppage time.
