Most coaches talk after the games and inquire about players they believe to be of star caliber. So when it comes time to vote they can recall the defensive player for SSA or Mandy and so on. Those coaches who know talent will find out who these players are and how many year they will have to contend with this player.
Some coaches however are CLUELESS. There was a coach last year whose team finished second in district, exited the playoffs early and he nominated 6 players to the all state team. SSA won it last year and only nominated 3. So coaches please have a clue when nominating players, you really make yourself look bad and you lose face among coaches.

MaKelle Pena, Soph, Fwd/MF, Vandebilt Catholic
...this player has played exceptionally well all season and has delivered when called upon. Vandebilt's match against Neville was no exception. Two beautiful finishes and a goal from a set piece against a tough Neville defense for a hat trick. Well done!

I will start the push for Melanie Rabeaux of Lafayette High (#18 I think). She ran down a girl for Dominican on the right side of the field on a breakaway and forced her to pass the ball to a girl breaking on the left side and got to her and kicked the ball away from her as well. If you were at the game tonight you witnessed a contender for defensive player of the year. She marked #4 and they battled all night long until they adjusted and dropped her to midfield where she finally got some breathing room. If you've played against her or have seen her play you would have to agree that she is definitely one of the best defenders if not "the best" defender in the state in Division I.

Madeline Pipken from Zachary knocked in 36 goals with 16 assists. Not many coaches know of her due to her not playing club soccer. Maddie is an impact player; she made the 94 ODP team and should be considered for this honor.

Maddie is an impact player; she made the 94 ODP team and should be considered for this honor. Ditto that on Maddie, she played club soccer for a number of years and still plays year round on a Div I team out of BR. More than her stats, she is a difference maker on the field. Very deserving, so I hope she at least gets some consideration.

1v1, I'll second the nomination of Madeline Pipkin. Madeline actually scored 38 goals this year and sits on 85 for her 3 year HS career. She has done so with a limited supporting cast and is an absolute difference maker on the field! No question she is deserving.

I would nominate Katherine Moody from Sacred Heart. Dominate in the air with one of the best shots in girls soccer, she made Louisiana high school soccer history this year by becoming the first player in any division, boys and girls, to score the game winning goal in two straight state championship games. She should get some consideration for the Division III MVP.

After playing in the State Finals for the third consecutive year, I have had the opportunity to see many talented forwards and midfielders. As for this year, the most talented forward I have seen is Sophomore Somer Jones of Fontainebleau High School. She is by far the best ball handler, play maker, and scorer I have seen this year. I believe she was an All-State selection last year and should easily repeat this year. She has the ability to take the ball from one end of the field to the other and score. I'm not talking about a forward who scores against, as someone put it, "Little Sisters of the Poor". This young player can score against anyone.

Anna Catherine Helm is one of the top scorers in the state and proved that game in and game out.
Leah Aultman is one of the state's top defenders, and consistently shut down opponent's scoring opportunities.

Rachael Berberovich of Northlake Christian. She had over 30 assists and had 44 goals on the season and was her Districts Offensive MVP. She led her team to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history, she deserves some consideration to be an All State player for DIII.

Players to consider for the Division- I All-State team from Dominican.
Katherine (Kat) Cuntz; Sr. - #23 (Center Midfielder) She had 12 goals and 15 assist on the season. She was the Most Outstanding Player in the State Final scoring two goals and controlling the midfield. She has also signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Louisiana Monroe in the fall. She has also been nominated for the All-State Player of the Year. An honor she deserves with her endless work rate in the midfield on both side of the ball.
Ashley Harber; Jr. - #22 (Center Back) She had five goals on the season. She was part of the defensive unit that had 21 shutouts in 29 games which allowed 16 goals. She does a good job of organizing the defense and minimizing the opponents’ opportunities.
Catalina Rubiano; Sr. - #1 (Keeper) She had 21 shutouts in 29 games. She allowed 16 goals during the season. She does a good job of organizing the defense. Her technical and tactical knowledge along with her athletic ability had her in the right place when it came time to make a save. She has also been nominated for the All-State Player of the Year. An honor that she deserves with her countless save during the season and by saving four pks in our two shootout wins; one in the Quaterfinals and three in the Semi-Finals.

I have watched a lot of high school girl's soccer this year and my choices are as follows (this is a Greater New Orleans' area team primarily); Striker: Lexie Gibbs-Dutchtown Delaney Sheehan-Mandeville Midfielder: Becca Beatty-SSA Kat Cuntz-Dominican Brooke Gros (Brook was injured much of the year but is an exceptional player) if not Brooke, then her team mate, Mallory Lott Lindy Robichaux-Dutchtown Defenders/Fullback Ashley Harber-Dominican Zoe Perret-Mt. Carmel Cassie Sharbonno-Chapelle Goalie: Katalina Rubiano-Dominican (Clutch in PK shoot out wins over Mandeville and Lafayette)
My Coach of the year goes to Al Silvas of Dominican, who lost two superb goal scorers from his 2010 team and managed to win a state championship with a defense oriented team at best ranked 6th in the state, and at times ranked 10th.
As to player of the year-my vote goes to Ms. Rubiano, who was a first year starter and suceeded the talented Emily Cobena, and put her own stamp on this season with 21 shutouts against great competition. (Mt. Carmel twice, Lafayette, Dutchtown twice, Byrd, West Monroe, Fontainbleu and Sacred Heart)

DOMINICAN HIGH SCHOOL/Div. I ALL-STATE RECOMMENDATIONS
Catatlina Rubiano #1, Unmatched composure and athleticism put this senior keeper on top. A fearless warrior and skillful artist rolled into one, this young lady posesses the right combination to take care of business in the goal like no other. Her stealth like presence makes her dangerous to the opponent - exciting to watch - and clearly the best keeper in the Division. Incredible stats, as well.
Ashley Harber #22, When it comes to "match winning defense" - she's "THE ONE". She has the vision and great tactical mind required to shut the opponent down - again, and again, and again. Combine this with her top-notch technical skills and you have an intelligent, powerful defender who more than gets the job down in every battle and puts the ball in the net, as well. From the subtleties of pace and touch, to some of the most violent headers I have ever seen, she's a talent that definitely deserves recognition.
Kat Cuntz #23 Even though soccer is a team sport, and she embraces the concept whole-heartedly, Cuntz often appears as a hero - fighting the opponent on her own. She is a classically great soccer player yet a kind of rebel when she wants the win. She wants the "win" every match. She never surrenders and has a mental and physical toughness that go unequaled in this Division. Cuntz CONTROLS the midfield and is explosive offensively. MVP of the State Final, scoring both goals - and yet acknowledging her team in every possible way, prefectly exemplify her character. She is truly the vision of a champion.
