Congrats to Dominican & Coach AL. Thought we had you. Just ten minutes, that's all we needed to run off before the clear shot and goal. Which ever player it was that took that shot, she couldn't have hit it any better. I was behind her near the fence and saw it head straight for the right upright and then start curving to the left with the wind and just miss the side and upper pipe to hit the net. Who ever shot that ball, I didn't like you much at that time.
Congrats to Dominican and good luck in the Finals.

I agree with Crusader Dad. It was a wonderful game to watch. Lafayette took advantage of a miscue in the first half. Lafayette's goalie also stopped two breakaways early for the home team. Second half a resilient Dominican came out, settled down and began to dominiate the game. Laffy still had two excellent shots to quiet the crowd. Dominican's goal was scored by a freshmen fullback who missed the Mandeville game due to illness. Coach Al used a variety of formations until his girls came up with the equalizer. SSA's upset of number one seed MCA sets up a rematch of last year's quarterfinal game, this time on a solid surface. The state championship should be a thriller.

Agree with you sokerfan. I was a great "banana" shot from # 5, she is so tiny at first I didn't think she could make it, it was like slow motion and then she put enough spin in the ball to curve it into the top right corner. I think the goalie did not believe it either and was late to react, but honestly I don't know if she could have caught it anyways. It was one of those shot you see on TV. They gave her enough time to set her shot and that was the only mistake Lafayette committed the whole game. It was a great game. the fact that a fullback scored shows how much Dominican put pressure on a very well organized Lafayette defense. But I disagree, I think Lafayette dominated the game until Dominican scored the equalizer and even then, they still were able to fend off Dominican attacks without too much trouble. I believe it is one of those game were the goalie made the difference. Lafayette used a back up goalie in the penalty shoot out while Dominican goalie made three absolutely awesome saves. (one denied for jumping the line but still). Doninican was a tad better offensively while Lafayette dominated defensively. The game was won by the goalkeeper. Dominican defense was very shaky in clearing the ball or in transitionning. We did see alot of different formations from Dominican. when Dominican went from 4-3-3 to a 3-5-2. The fullback were always beaten by #12 and it took them awhile to understand that they had to mark her up and not play the offside trap on that super fast striker. Maybe if Lafayette had gone from a 5-4-1 to a 4-4-2 then, because they were better organized, they could have created more opportunity for themselves and get the pressure off their fullbacks. but I am "Monday quarterbacking" here, easy for me to say. all in all it was a great game to watch congratulations to Dominican, great job coach Al, good luck in the final.

Thanks to Dominican coach and players for trying to uplift our Lafayette players particularly my daughter. It is so refreshing to see good sportsmanship. Good luck in the finals!

soccreB, the goal keeper did end up being the difference as you said. What a lot of people don't know about Lafayette High and the keeper situation is that we lost our Starting Senior keeper due to a new Rule implemented by LHSAA in January. Our principle, Athletic director, whomever was suppose to know about this rule coming into effect did not let the coach or players know of this new rule. Therefore we had to throw to the wolves a freshman who many thought wasn't quite ready yet. She played in the second half against Mt. Carmel in the N.O. tourney where it was 0-0 at the half and we lose 2-0. She then played the second half against Vandebilt only to see them score 2 goals in the second half with the last one coming 10 seconds left in the game to tie it at 3-3. Not that she was the cause for the losses, but the players didn't have the confidence in her at that time. She has worked hard not to let the players down after we lost our senior starter, with wins against Northshore & St. Thomas More in the playoffs.
With all that said, we have a girl that plays sweeper for us that played keeper with the Cajun Soccer Club with Coach Katie Breaux for 4 years. She is a senior and our best chance in a shootout was with her and that is why the move in the shootout. I am glad the freshman was not in goal because of the guilt she may have had if they had lost with her in goal. We all know how tough it is for a keeper in that situation.
The bright spot for Laffy was the fact that there were 5 Freshman and 6 Seniors on the field during crunch time. We will miss our Seniors and we thank them for showing our underclassman what payoff soccer is all about. Next year there is a great possibility of having 11 sophomores starting varsity, with no Seniors, and a couple juniors. Definitely a rebuilding year but plenty of young talent.
oldhattrick3, it is definitely you fault we lost. Let me know if your neck starts hurting, so I can make sure this voodoo doll I bought works.
Good luck Dominican. Coach AL all I have to say to you is, WHO DAT.
