District Champ (Lafayette) - 9 players mentioned Runner up (Acadiana) - 12 players mentioned Barbe - -------------------- 6 players mentioned Sulphur -------------------- 5 players mentioned
BEST DEFENSIVE player in the district (but not voted by these coaches) - Melanie Rabeaux Melanie was 1st team ALL STATE last year and she had a better year this year. But these coaches I guess didn't see much of her because their offense didn't reach the Lafayette defense.
Very interesting how 2 years in a row that Acadiana has 12 players in the group. Seems their coach nominates his whole team so they can all be happy or he is just clueless. I think it is the latter. EXAMPLE: He nominated (6) to the ALL STATE team last year when the 2 teams that played in the finals combined nominated (7) total. WHAT!!
With the district changing next year hopefully this way of thinking will not be with the majority. I know a couple of coaches that still believe it is an honor that is EARNED and not GIVEN.
I honestly believe Acadiana had a few players deserving, congratulations to those girls for having EARNED this honor. You know who you are.

Perhaps the Acadiana coach is onto something good. High School soccer is about the girls playing it! It is great to see coaches supporting their players. All district coaches get a vote. Every girl on that district list was voted in by all of the coaches of the district who attended the meeting. We all know how it works.

What is the point of even having a all district team if everyone on the team makes it. All you have to do is list the starting lineups and a few subs. Maybe just have a 1st team and 2nd team without the honorable mentioned.

speedy, I do and you are wrong. Each coach can nominate his or her WHOLE TEAM. When they put it to a vote the coach CANNOT vote for their own players. In other words if Lafayette high has the top 8 players in the district, and the Sulphur coach votes for all the Acadiana players and vise versa, then the better players are shafted. Those not voted to 1st team then move onto second team and THE REST are honorable mention because their coach put his whole roster. Therefore is it an honor when it is done like that?
I saw the list of the ALL STATE nominees by team. A coach nominated 9 players and he finished 2nd in his district. That is more than the 2 teams in the finals combined. C'MON man have a clue!! Oh, they bowed out in the second round of the playoffs.

Time to reference rule #6 in Alice's "Twenty Thoughts on Soccer"
If there's 1 team (any division) that has 9 players who deserve consideration for All-State, then that team should have decimated their district and won state handing out 5 beatdowns in the process.
There's a player in another district that signed with LSU, but only made 2nd team All-District. What's wrong with the LSU coach? What didn't he see in those 17 players who made 1st team?

I strongly agree, MANY of the names are placed on the list because of politics and favoritism (you vote for mine, I will vote for yours, etc....)The better players sometimes do get "shafted". How about the years/districts when all of the coaches don't show to vote? We all know how it works and it is not always fair. Are the players to blame? No! Many players are finding other things to become involved with (in) because of the adults and petty politics. Sokerfan, LHS is lucky to have the numbers they have. I also think 3 clubs in Lafayette is 2 too many! The players suffer because the adults can't compromise and do what is best to develop players/teams. Sometimes, high school and club have a lot in common. Seems to me, Alice is right about a lot of things in his list. We need to change it.

For the second straight year Acadiana received the "Defensive MVP" for the district, but the Lafayette High defender (Melanie Rabeaux) received "ALL STATE" - 1ST TEAM HONORS
Lets see, who knows talent? Looks like the coaches from the top teams in the state get the nod over the Div. I District 3 coaches.

Are only the top teams in the state allowed to vote?

No, only the coaches that have joined the coaches association. So make sure your coach is registered next year and spread the word. Because what happens is fans wonder why their players don't get any recognition, but the truth is the coaches aren't registered therefore can't nominate anyone.

Maybe it wasn't what he saw, maybe it was what he didn't let cloud his vision of the talent the player possessed Maybe that player made 2nd team All-District rather than 1st because of "other" reasons.
