Our academy for Shreveport is set for this weekend. We have 14 participants, 4 mentors and 2 assessors going. Should be a great opportunity to share tricks of the refereeing trade to all involved. This is our 2nd spring academy and we will host 2 more in the fall. Of your association would like to host one at your tournament, please send me a PM or reply here. The state referee committee is trying to hold these at different locations so that we can get as many participants as possible bfhen shreveport academy has officials from shreveport, baton rouge, lake Charles and Mandeville participating. Mentors and assessors from baton rouge, Lafayette, alexandria, Monroe and Hammond.
Every academy has received high marks from the participants, and coaches have said they see the improvement in the officials. This is our ultimate goal, better officials and better officiating

Is this designed for the younger referee?

my understanding is that it is designed for ANY referee who seriously wants to improve. the feedback at these events is incredible.
IMHO It would be nice to be able to get hold of 16-19 year olds who are on the verge of moving on to greater things or dropping out of refereeing with an aim of keeping them in the game.

The only people we will exclude are new referees who have not worked any games or have a low game count. They likely wouldn't get anything from the clinics and feedback being so new. Otherwise, we are looking for referees who want to improve their game, their knowledge, are looking to possibly upgrade, and who want exposure to higher level officials than they may normally work with, especially those who may not have the ability to travel to work tournaments. Every single official who has attended has seen noticeable improvement in their game. And that is ultimately what we are looking to provide

I would love to do it, but at Red Stick I had 3 teams playing and wasnt able to get away to ref a game. Would it be possible to just do 1-2 games in the future. I am looking to move to a 7 once I get my 100 games, and I think the feedback would be great.

Sorry, but it doesn't work being involved for a couple of games. The way it's set up is a day long commitment so you can get full benefits. In our first attempts at this training, we tried this and it just didn't work. Referees are assigned to a crew for the full day, the same people work together all day, talk to the assessors and watch other games as a team.
I think there are other ways you can get some training and input on your way to an upgrade. I can tell you that every referee who has approached the State Referee Committee with a desire to upgrade has gotten attention. Get in touch with me in private and we can discuss how we can assist you in your goals.
