It's that time of year again. How would you rank them? And will there be an official pre-season poll this year?

We typically do not do pre-season polling; after some official regular season results are in, we'll roll out the first polls.

You can count on the traditional teams to be in the top 10 again when all is said and done. SSA, Mandy, Fontainbleu, Dominican, Mt. Carmel, St. Thomas More & Lafayette.
I am not sure what the other teams are bringing back but STM only lost 3 seniors of which I think only 1 started. The biggest issue is that they will be entering this year again with a new coach. The talent is there to win it all if there are no distractions.
Lafayette lost 12 seniors last year but also had good freshman class last year. In the semi final game there were 5 freshman and 6 seniors on the field. They do not have any Seniors this year and will be led by the Soph. class.
The others I am not sure about but will see Mt. Carmel at the Carencro Tourney and Dominican at the New Orleans Tourney.
Good luck and have a HEALTHY year.

LHSSCA Polling Committee is ready to go and will have our first poll out right after Thanksgiving once some early results are in from non-district matches and the early season tournaments.

Are there going to be weekly polls?
I think with MCA winning this past weekends tournament they definitely deserve the number 1 spot. After that it could be interesting in Division I.

Until the coaches, or maybe the crazysoccerparents, from each school turn in the schedules and scores to the board moderators, it will be difficult, if not impossible, to venture a guess as to poll rankings. One can only see so many teams in person, even at a tournament. The boys side seems to do a much better job reporting schedules/scores and are far better organized than the girls side. A lot of coaches will ultimately use this thread when it comes to seeding for playoffs, so not sure why so slow this year to get schedules.

I will take a swing since my team has seen or played many of the top teams in the state. From my vantage point, I am going on the eyeball test. Many of the results against my team came during a time which we did not have a full squad. So I cannot compare results on even terms.
Division I
1. Mt. Carmel 2. Dominican 3. SSA 4. East Ascension 5. St. Thomas More 6. Lafayette
7 - 10. Pick em
I have not seen Mandeville, Fontainebleau, Acadiana or W.Monroe play. Not sure where they fit in the above. SJA dad may have another take on it.
Do not sleep or laugh at my East Ascension pick. They gave us the most problems out of all of the teams and we have played them all already. I feel like my team can be there at some point. We have played competitive games with many of those teams with a depleated squad. I like the way we are developing. Our tough schedule should help us out in district and playoffs (hopefully we make it). The Mandeville tournament and a late season match against Mt. Carmel will tell me where SJA belongs.
By the way I do not vote in the coaches poll.

I think fountaibleau definitely is in the top 10, they have a really nice attack with good wingers and a top player in the center with somer jones.

East Ascension hasn't seen top 10 in a few years. With a 9-0 start on the season, they are definitley there this year. Rock solid defense, they have only allowed total of only 4 goals in first 9 games. Would really be great if the schedule and results thread was kept up to date- about half the teams don't have schedules posted, and those that do have little or no results. Very hard to say who is top 10 without more info....

I have seen these teams up close. A lot of these girls play together during club ball. The way I see it is:
1. MCA - Pretty much returning the same team from last year that should have won state 2. Mandeville - This could be there year. Three of the highest scorers in the state up front 3. SSA - The young guns of the Doves, still with three seniors from the championship teams, will make some noise 4. Dominican - Early rematch of last year's championship game with the Doves was a tie, but the Doves would prevail in a rematch.
I can't say about 5 thru 10, but your eventual 2011-12 state champ will come from this group. Good luck to all!

Don't know how you leave Lafayette High out. They should be near the top. They have played Mount Carmel twice. Both times it went to a shoot out. Lafayette won once, and Mount Carmel won once.

NutMeg you did a good job of picking so early in the season and I cannot argue with most of your picks, but as you said after early December we will have a better picture of who will make a run at the state title...I will give it a shot... 1)Mount Carmel 2)Lafeyette (my sleeper) 3)St. Scholastica (Ortner still the coach) 4)Dominican (defense) 5)St. Thomas More 6)Mandeville (could be higher with great offense, but defense suspect) 7)Fontainebleau 8)West Monroe
Will not go any further because I feel these 8 are the only teams that have a good shot of running the table. No disrespect to the other teams and maybe they will prove me wrong....My personal opinion is we could see a champion crowned from outside of the New Orleans area from the first time in a while...

You might need to consider Byrd. I know they are from the north but they did win the Showcase Tourney in Lake Charles and beat West Monroe at West Monroe 3-0 last week.
