Friday
Bolles HS - Jacksonville 6-2 over EA
Saturday
Lawton Chiles (Tallahassee - host team) 3-3
Niceville (Niceville, Fla) 3-1 over EA
JV lost 1-0 to Chiles and beat Leon HS and Lincoln JV 2-1.
All JV teams were local area.
This was our second year at the event. Came away with the same results, two losses and one exciting tie. Lawton Chiles HS's Chip Chadwell and crew put on a fantastic tournament. Fields are immaculate. Facilities outstanding. It's the FSU intramural complex, so you can imagine all is very impressive. Complex wide speaker system. Superb lighting. Awesome changing facilities. Even has soccer specific scoreboards, though didn't use.
We took varsity and JV. JV got to enter free. Costs $450 and three games were provided for the JV. Obviously, you have two night hotel and transportation costs to incur. Please PM me if interested, I cannot recommend the event highly enough. Girls had a blast. Took em to Fun Station earlier and the Go Karts and Laser Tag were a huge hit.
As for competition, it's pretty spectacular. 28 teams. 7 brackets. Nothing was set specific, but I believe we were placed in either the 3rd or 4th level bracket. Watched some American Heritage and another school out of Miami and it was just plain sick. I do believe EA is a decent team this year, but Lordy playing one of them would have been akin to LSU football playing a middle school FB team;)
Did not shy away from the competition, wanted three rocking games:
Bolles was just outstanding. Made a couple of gk oops plays, so maybe a 4-2 game, but that's a big maybe. Really pleased we scored two on them. Came at good times too.
Chiles. This was game of the tourn - of course I'm bias, but a good few coaches came over after and offered congrats to the team. We were 3-1 down with a few mins left and managed to tie it up. Knowing the gk is the starting US National U15s GK was all the more rewarding;)
Niceville. A 1-1 game entering second half, but and a few with bumps and bruises were sat. Looking back, this was our weakest opponent overall.
I believe our placement was about right. No complaints.
JV was very surprising. Again, EA jv is a solid crew. Dropped to hosts 1-0, were slightly better team and the 2-1 wins were both after being down 1-0 and all those teams came in for the single game only - again thanks to Chip. Were super games and girls definitely enjoyed their success.
As for next year, I do believe date will again be in the same time range.
