Also FYI, the BM coach talked to the players during the game to make sure the knew the rule on throwins. Hopefully the son talked to the mom and educated her too. Although I did like the "ding, ding, ding" comment

Well, they call it a [glow=red,2,300]RED[/glow] card... not a hot-pink, fuschine, taupe, lavender, aqua, [glow=red,2,300]purple[/glow], sea-green, or [glow=red,2,300]gold[/glow] card.
Speaking of red cards. The FED rules specify that a certain number of reds (2) in a season and the player is off the team. Is this rule enforced in LHSAA? I've never heard of it happening, but wonder. How is it reported?

First of all, ROLL TIDE??? Please Coach, GO TIGERS!! Capitolcity, there are people who watch, there is discussion amongst those of us who want to learn and get better, and sometimes it is just plain and simply a numbers game. I will say this, I have a big problem with parents who referee yelling at referees working. It violates the code of conduct and you can bet they are not the ones who are certified to evaluate and instruct. Yet they yell out and everyone thinks they are correct when in many cases they are not. They only make things worse. Parents..... Wow! 3 good ones this weekend. 1. A 5 minute discussion by parents on the ball spinning on a throw in. Their final decision, it could spin but the spin could only legally be created by the hand after it had passed over the head which was very hard and almost impossible to do. Again WOW!! FYI equal force was removed from the laws in 1977. They don't know the laws now and I doubt they knew the laws 34 years ago. Please see link below. 2. "HANDBALL!" I'm not saying any more on that one. See link below. www.refereeinstructiononline.com/custpage.php?cid=77&teamid=03. Most disturbing one, about a good player on the opposing team; "Someone needs to cut his leg from under him!" How? How can parents tell there children to go hurt others? Now if their kid was hurt they would file assault and battery charges against the other kid. I seen it happen. Mind boggling! There are issues all around, let's just try to all do our part to make things better and not worse. Congrats to all that competed, and good luck to those still competing!

Thanks for your 2 cts. I watched the BM-LAF match this morning. A very good intense game that was diminished by various players' whines and constant prattle on the pitch about the ref calls. It started early in the first half. One player even gave hand signal for a handball and I do believe that the ref told him without play stoppage to stop making calls and play. This escalated in the 2nd half and when the game got intense, the behavior got worse and thus the cards were given. I never yelled anything at a soccer match before but I felt like yelling at the players to "Just play and finish your online ref course on Saturday night." The SPS-BM game was played hard and was absent of the ref prattle from my vantage point. It should be a good final.

Lobo, I didn't call out any parents by team, but I do hope a certain group watch the videos in the link above before a match tomorrow. 😄 It was a parent on my son's team so I felt it ok to "call them out". If it was some other team I would have been quiet.

Is anyone here to post about thebm/Jesuit game because I want an unbiased opinion of the keeper take down and double red? Here's what happened: The Jesuit player went up for a ball that was bouncing high and at the edge of the Brother Martin box. The player lightly hit the goalkeeper, but the keeper was still able to catch the ball and land on his feet. Instead of just walking away with the ball, the keeper threw his shoulder toward the Jesuit player but almost missed him completely. The brother Martin keeper fell to the ground and another Brother Martin player grabbed the Jesuit player to hold him back I think. After this a few players and 2 refs went running in to break things up. Jesuit player was yellow carded, another given a red and the keeper was red carded. Here's my take: The Jesuit player went up to challenge a ball that I think the keeper was clearly going to get but if I was a coach I would want my player to challenge it. The keeper was only barely hit but as a keeper it would aggravate me that I had gotten hit. The brother Martin keeper did not even allow time for the ref to deal with the foul when he threw his shoulder into the Jesuit player. That action by the keeper was a blatant "attack" which was uncalled for to say the least. The Jesuit player did not hurt him or attack him but he was just playing the game. It was unfortunate for Brother Martin. Also, do you mean the double yellow on #17? Both of his fouls wee quite blatant. Most refs would have issued cards for both fouls just as this one did but I just think the fouls were out of frustration by Brother Martin. There were a few other yellow cards throughout this game that might have been unnecessary but it's all part of the game.

the keeper was taken out purposely by the jesuit player. he did not land on his feet he landed on his side. I don't know about you but anybody who get taken out mid air especially in an a tense rivalry game would get up and fight for themselves. he didn't let the refs do anything because the bad center ref was 20 yards away. number 17 for Jesuit did not do anything I even ask the BM keeper what #17 from Jesuit dude he said "nothing he was trying to stop anything from happening" it just shows the quality of the refs they had for an intense game.

In a tense rivalry game, the smart player would get up and keep playing an let his amazing play speak for him instead of fighting and getting a red card forcing his team to play down. (hurt them even more because of how early it was in the half) The Brother Martin keeper blocked all of Jesuit's pks in the shoot out, I think he could have saved the first Jesuit goal which was a Pk. Also, of Brother Martin had been playing with 11 players maybe Jesuit would have not gotten the chance to score. So I'd rather not fight and be on the feild.

What happened to teaching our kids to "turn the other cheek?" If he didn't give the refs a chance to make a call then he deserved the send off. Anyone who has played sports has probably been on the receiving end of a dirty play. You chose to either get up, dust off, and play harder to beat the dirty player; or you stoop to their level and play dirty yourself. Taking a swing, charging, throwing a shoulder or elbow, biting off an ear.....no place for it in any game. Blame the refs if you want, but at some point players have to take responsibility for their actions as well.

Hopefully Jan 28th will be another hard fought game between two great High School teams! Win or lose these are both teams worthy of Top 2 or 3 positioning who will make long rns into the playoffs. Hopefully, this one challenge in the box (and subsequent cards) doesn't turn that match into anything either team will later regret! Good luck to both squads going forward!

The Brother Martin keeper is not only an amazing keeper but he is a really good kid that unfortunately let his temper get the best of him. I've seen him play many times and he's really good at not over reacting. I can't wait to see him on January 28th because I promise he will bring his "A game".

the keeper was taken out purposely by the jesuit player. How the heck do you know this? Oh... so now anytime anyone gets knocked down in a soccer game is supposed to get up and fight? Have you ever played keeper? So the ref was 20 yards away... and that constitues being out of position? Huh? So the ref being 20 yards away allows this player to start a fight? or is it he gets to start a fight because of the bad ref? So... therefore ... the "bad refs" are actually responsible for the red card which wasn't deserved because the bad refs were cheating for Jesuit and any respectable player would fight when he got knocked down. Yeah... right ... hummm, oh? what do you think should "happen?" Geezzzz.... If our fans/players/parents were like this, I'd retire from the game.
