Reply to hat. The comment that the district will be decided by PJP and STA it was obviously forgotten that STA had a game at Hannan. I went to the game and saw a very entertaining match. It was decided in OT by what was a suspiciously offside goal. The referee allowed the girls to play, sometimes to much in this fans opinion, but that’s another discussion. I also believe it was a fair result as AH seemed fired up and STA were a bit flat I have watched a number of games this year so feel reasonably qualified to comment as to the strengths and weaknesses of the teams in that district. I have to agree that the teams to watch in the future of that district, if not state, are going to be STA and AH. Both teams seem to be loaded with young players and more to follow them. AH is going to make serious inroads to the supremacy of SSA in the Covington area. While not in the same division I believe that some players are going to choose AH over SSA for a number of reasons, one being a budding soccer program. Just my 2 cents worth.

neutralfan believe me PJPII knew that the Hannan Vs STA was a big game. If our girl would have not had a game yesterday they all wanted to be there. A win by Hannan would give PJPII the district outright a STA win we would have share the district title. Unfortunately the last two games STA have lost all I here is the ref this the ref that. When you go out an play all that you can control is how you play as a team. Everything else is out of your control weather, pitch condition, fans and referee. So all I ask is play your hardest and win or loose in the eyes of your coaches and parents you are a winner.

b2b, thank you for the Loyola shout out. We knew that the transition from D2 to D3 would be difficult in terms of ranking and recognition. We now know that we should try to schedule more games playing top 10 D3, but being in Shreveport is a definite disadvantage. Always enjoy playing you! Good luck in state!
Good luck to all the D3 teams as well. Loyola looks forward to earning it over the next few weeks.

My 2 cents: I like how the top 10 is this year and for the last poll before the playoffs. I think with #1-4, they can be interchangable and on any given day, one can beat the other, so I'm fine with the ranks (I do believe that Newman is the #1 since they have the most recent big wins). For #5-8, I also believe that they are in a good spot, again, on any given day..... I am most interested in #9 thru #16 that nobody really talks about. Lost of teams obviously jockey for position at the end of the year and hope that they can host a playoff game - a very big deal for those programs. This grouping seems to include Hannan, Country Day, ESA and there have been previous discussions about Northlake Christian and nothing about several others. Here are the schools that I would like to hear opinions from others on for rankings #9 and up: Riverside Academy - District Champs and have played some good games, but get no press. ESA - why are they so low in the polls? McGehee - graduated the whole team from last year, but are coming on pretty strong now or what? Archbishop Hannan - do they deserve to be #11 or is there so much chatter about them that people feel obligated to vote? (I read somewhere that someone put them at #10 because they didn't know of any other team?!?!?!) Northlake Christian - young and will be good in the future, but should that be a reward for this year? St. Martin's - we tied Hannan and NC, so should we be talked about as much? (Don't think so). Only thing going is that we have played a tough schedule and have been playing well the past 2 weeks after the injury bug has been eliminated. Country Day - not sure why nobody gives them respect for playing in the toughest district in the state and not winning each game, but competing, also, had early season successes. Menard - can someone please tell us anything about them? Opelousas Catholic - nothing out there? really? Lusher - nothing? really? they are better than people think.... Yall let me know what you think. Here is my top 21: 1) Newman 2) Episcopal BR 3) Sacred Heart 4) Catholic NI 5) Runnels 6) Uhigh 7) Loyola 8) PJPII 9) ESA 10) St. Thomas Aquanis 11) Menard 12) Country Day 13) Riverside Academy 14) Opelousas Catholic 15) McGehee 16) Hannan 17) St. Charles Catholic 18) St. Martin's 19) Lusher 20) Northlake Christian 21) St. Fred's Excuse me in advance if you think that I missed anyone, but definitely let me know why! Billy Smith St. Martin's Episcopal Girls Soccer Also, still a couple of games left, (ie - we play McGehee saturday and Country Day Monday), so obviously this could flip a bit.....

Country Day's 1-0 loss to Newman at CD, and away from Newman's narrow turf field, is interesting. I just don't know enough to even speculate what that means in terms of polls and seedings, if anything.

Hey Billy - see ya Saturday!
Hi all,
My first year coaching high school so it's all new to me. Still not completely clear how the ranking / seeding thing works but maybe it'll all be clear next week.
At McGehee we have a young team and a small squad and were hammered by both Sacred Heart and Newman, but we beat Country Day (and Lusher) both home and away. On reading through the board I see Country Day mentioned a few times - indeed Billy ranks them three places above us despite those two victories - and was wondering why that was.
Is it because they traditional have a strong team or because of other non-district scores? Will they be ranked above us then if other coaches put them there, or below us because we beat them twice?
Like I said, it's all new so any light anyone can shed on things would be great. Thanks!

St. Freds may surprise a few teams, and Ouachita Christian is not even on the list. Puzzled??

Riverside Academy's overall record --- 13-8-2
Notible games: 2 Wins over Northlake, 3-1 n 3-1 Tied Hannan 0-0 and Country Day 0-0 Lost 2-0 @ Catholic N.I Beat st. charles twice, 3-1, 5-0 Split with St martins, 3-0 W, 1-0 L Beat Lusher 2-0 (play them again saturday) Lost 7-0 to Newman (first game of season with out volleyball/CC)
We definitely dont get the publicity being a young program... but then again other young programs are getting the exposure... guess its all about if you want to get on here and talk your team up...

Rebelcoach, We have been lamenting the lack of coverage of girls soccer this year around the state. This site appears to be the only consistant source of coverage and it has been lacking to a certain degree. You or a parent will need to come on here and keep folks up to date on what the Lady Rebels are doing. I sent you PM asking for a schedule update because what is on this site is way off of what you stated. Help me help you by getting the right schedule and record out to everyone.

I've noticed a few places where people want info about Menard. Since I am not really sure what info you want...I post our results...please let me know. I will be more than happy to share ;D. If you look at our record...we win the games we are suppose to, lose the ones we are suppose to (Lafayette, STM, Teurlings...ouch), and try to get results in other games. We only have one team in our district...Grace Christian...that is even younger than we are! We don't have many chances to play D3 teams, so we have to travel out of the area to play quality opponents. If you look, almost every one of our games against top, ranked, or D3 teams were on the road. Except for local teams, Sam Houston (home and away) and Ouachita Christian (hard working team!), we have traveled for every game. We have had some odd scheduling issues that made it necessary to cancel games versus Newman and Deridder (both would have been away games). I am not a coach that makes excuses. But for those that might want to know about a few games, maybe this will help (I would be happy to give you my opinion of every game if needed): Baton Rouge- first game of year...held in there until we gave up the 2nd goal with less than 2 minutes left in 2nd half Acadiana- it was 1-0 at half; we were just too tired after playing Lafayette 2 hours before (plus keepers back was injured which got better in mid January 2012); game was end to end in the 1st half; Acadiana pretty much controlled 2nd Catholic NI- we couldn't handle the 2 girls up front; once we made some adjustments, things settled down and it was more of a 18 to 18 game; final 1/3 for us was not pretty ESA-they had a 2-0 lead on us and we scored 2 in the last 10 minutes; we did not play well for most of the game...I was wondering if the basketball team got on the bus from Menard instead of the soccer team St. Michael's- back and forth game...fairly even; bigger field hurt us at first, but we adjusted; gave up a goal in the 2nd half when the ball went through keepers legs (oops) West Ouachita- MASSIVE turf field...nice facility; we gave up 2 early...for some reason we got confused on how to control a flighted ball??; adjusted and put 2 in the 2nd half, but couldn't put in the 3rd goal though we had the run of play in the 2nd half Hope this helps everyone. Good luck to everyone in the playoffs! Coach Dwain

Like I said, it's all new so any light anyone can shed on things would be great. Thanks! Coach, Below are the records of both teams, so everyone can compare. To my eye, CD has fared better than McGehee against every common opponent (district and non district), in most cases drastically better. Those seven schools are: Ursuline, Northlake Christian, Scared Heart, Newman, Pope John Paul, St. Martins, and Lusher. (Lusher is the closest one but CD wins on the 3rd district tie breaker, goals allowed, 3-1.) It is true that CD lost to McGehee twice in 1-0 games head to head. In both games, CD dominated possession but gave up a crazy (some say fluke) goal in each. That's soccer, but it doesn't counteract the entire record of both teams. Louise S. Stevo- I had heard about your games against Country Day from a few people and the concensous was that they were two goals that came against the run of play (which by no means am I saying you didn't deserve them....or the wins), but my biggest decision maker with McGehee and Country Day was the comparable teams. CD fared better against Newman and Sacred Heart and had a tie to PFPII where McGehee lost, also the Northlake Christian games were a big decider too. No offense to you or your girls, just how I saw it. I'm sure others can see it differently and also, have different opinions on my poll, but I just wanted to open the discussion for some teams that haven't had any news..... See ya tomorrow! Billy

Loyola is no longer playing Parkway on Monday, Jan 30, as Parkway had to cancel the game in order to get a District make up game in.

According to Episcopal's web-site, www.ehsbr.org/Public_Calendar, the game is at 1:00. It also shows a JV game for 1:00. No clue which would be first.

Thanks for those replies. I think it's great that you guys have gone to the trouble of comparing common opponents.
I actually missed our away game against CD because I was at the NSCAA convention, but certainly our victory at Pan Am was well deserved. Our keeper never made a serious save all night and there was nothing flukey about our goal: a lightening counter-attack thanks to quick reactions, fast movement - and of course, excellent coaching - ha ha!
Seriously though, cheers lads.
PS Good game today Billy. I'm disappointed we didn't win though...

Within two days of each other Country Day beat St. Martins 3-0 and McGehee tied St. Martins 1-1. This bring to seven (and all) of the common opponents Country Day and McGehee have in which Country Day has fared better (usually significantly better).
