thirdcoast, great post above...
In response to "ESA, why are they so low in the polls?"
ESA has had a quietly successful season this year. They finished 2nd in a good district behind a talented Catholic High team (3). They've been sitting on the periphery all year receiving votes, probably due to losses that kept showing up. However, some of those losses were to: Teurlings, Pope John Paul II, Mandeville High, Ben Franklin, and Catholic High. ESA has been playing difficult teams to prepare them for playoffs.
A few weeks ago they lost one of their critical players in Claire Storment (Baton Rouge/Lafayette Alliance) to a torn ACL. Since then, the remaining team stepped up and played even stronger, finishing the season with a win 1-0 against Catholic High New Iberia at Catholic High, and a tough loss last night 0-1 to Acadiana at Acadiana.
Hopefully coaches will see the 2nd place finish in District to Catholic High with a win against them late in the year, and that ESA challenged some of the best in the state this year in hopes of preparing for playoffs.
One never knows what people are thinking, but ESA has battled hard, and it will be interesting to see if they receive recognition for some quality wins, and a tough schedule.

IMO the most underrated team in DIII polls is Loyola. Alot of the voters do not see teams from north of I-10 very often. This cuts both ways, with historically good teams being overrated, and actually good teams being underrated. Regardless, in the end, there can be only one, so the playoffs will show how talented each team really is.
