Coach of the year is the person who gets the most out of their team. It could be a division champ - but it might not. Hypothetically - winning D3 with 11 senior club players which may include college D1 players and ODP players? That coach can put it in cruise control and just try not to get in the way. I coached a class B baseball team that won a state championship with 11 or 12 seniors. We were supposed to win. Another team that finished third in our district and was seeded #19 made it to the final 4. You could make an excellent case for that coach winning it, and not the ultimate champ.

I did not say that the choice had to be a division winner but selected after the championships are played out and completed. During the course of the tournament while it has everyone's attention, may be a more opportune time for such a selection to occur..

Div III I am in agreement that it is possibly premature, but it is nice to see who we all think may be truly deserving. I also feel that it should not necessarily be the coach who's team wins state in each division. If a coach does really well with a number of underclassmen, that normally means that she has done a fantastic job of coaching these not-so-seasoned/ experienced girls. I have to agree with Cuttysark, and uhscub1. I don't know a great deal about Newman's age makeup; but I do know that Melissa Ramsey at University has had a fabulous season with only one senior starter and two 8th grade starters, again, one at goal keeper. She should get a great deal of consideration.
