what is so impressive is Mandeville Soccer Club supports 4 quality teams and maybe 5 (Northshore has a few players) and as I put it a great farm system. I hope all continue to support this organization!

Congratulations to all the quarterfinalists, good luck to all and I love the banter. As the old saying goes, "those that can, DO, those that can't, Coach or teach!" The rest of us log onto these boards "like me" and talk smack hoping we can prove to ourselves how smart we are. Rembember, only one team will have "bragging" rights in the end and the band wagons for teams and districts seem to get bigger as the playoffs proceed and teams are eliminated. A month from now, no one will remember much of us or our opinions! When I grow up though, I want to be as smart as all of us combined! (Read that one twice). You gotta love the passion we all have for our daughters and their teams.

Mandy 3, EA 1. 1-1 at the half. Good game, scoreline was just about right. Laffy refs superb. Best of luck to the Coach Esker and the Skippers the rest of the way. Best of luck to parish sisters, Dutchtown too.
Some amazing quarter finals games lined up.
Sissko - as a neutral with no dog in the fight - a little weak. Gotta be classier than that, assuming an adult.

One of the great things about soccer is the final goal tally is how we determine who wins. It's not possession, number of corners, or what half of the field the game is played on. The game is about scoring goals and stopping your opponent from scoring goals. And, there are thousands of ways to go about it. This may seem obvious to some but maybe not to others. Some people seem to forget that defense is also half the game.
My guesses and I emphasize "guesses" for the quarters are: Lafayette MCA SSA Fontainebleau (coin flip)

We must all be psychic. At the beginning of November, before the scrimmages, friendlies, tournaments, district games, and two rounds of playoffs, we all knew (whether we admitted it or not) it would come down to: - Mount Carmel
- Dominican
- St. Scholastica
- Mandeville
- Fountainebleau
- St. Thomas More
- Lafayette
The only unknown is who would be the eigth team: Dutchtown, West Monroe, etc. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and predict the final eigth for 2013 will contain the same top 7

Coddo Coach had a superb gameplan - played strictly a defensive game hoping to keep the game close. Most do not realize Lafayette High was without their star striker who is a Regional ODP Player - She was in Las Vegas at the second round of Tryouts for the National Team

theoldsoccercoach- Thanks for the information because I am one who believes that sometimes there is a story behind the scenes and it does change the outcome of the game. When you see a score that frankly baffles you I find this to be information and not EXCUSES. This team has played good consistent soccer ALL year and that is why I was surprised by the score. No disrespect to Caddo Magnet because obviously they came to PLAY!

Caddo came to play and did...goal scored on a handball in the box...there were several handballs during game....this one ended in the game winner. This game was a battle most did not expect. ODP ends the 12th, "star striker" will be back for Lafayette vs. Mandy...can one player be the difference between #17 and #1? Good Luck to all!

Agreed that my choice of words (star) probably wasn't the best, one player typically does not make that large of a difference. In this case it really was not about Lafayette beging down one player, although the player I am referring to is pretty special. Caddo really had a good game plan; when you sell out and commit virutally all players to defense the offensive third becomes extremely crowded and anything can happen; such as #1 beating #17 by a score of 1-0.

can one player be the difference between #17 and #1? Possibly -- ask Indianapolis Colts. However, in the case of Lafayette High, they are strong top to bottom, so it doesn't make THAT much difference. Lafayette played Caddo earlier in the year on a neutral field, and the score was only 2 0. Why would anybody be surprised that it was only 1 0 this time, with Caddo having home field advantage

Well, I hope this one "star" makes a difference, because Mandy has quite a few high scorers, and I'm talking about 45+ goals each. Should be quite a match.

Both teams are loaded, no doubt it will be one for the ages.

In most cases 1 player doesn't make a difference and Lafayette plays with whomever is able to play night in and night out. Yes our leading scorer was not there for the Caddo game, but a win is a win. Just like in the Mandy tourney when our best midfielder didn't play in the tournament due to a stress fracture near her knee. They still found players to fill in and win games against Caddo (2-0) and Mandy (1-0) and tie Dominican (2-2) and Fontainebleu (2-2). Good teams find ways to win and good coaches prepare their players during the season for times when starters may not be able to answer the bell.
Good news is everybody as of today is healthy and ready to go (provided the plane arrives in safely on Sunday).
Sean will have Mandeville prepared as well and it should be an exciting game on Monday.

totally disagree with many saying one person does not make a difference. the score I was expecting was 3-0 and in soccer that is a convincing win. 1 person may not do all the scoring, but (especially if a odp caliber striker) creates oportunities for her teamates. the other team may also mark or skew their defense to defend her which opens the door for oportunities for her teamates. as for as Mandeville goes and their strikers:they are good, but as a poster once said many of the elite striker goals(all teams around the state) are against the lessor teams which in turn sends their statistics thru the roof. Mandevilles strikers are no different and you check the stats you will see this to be the case. quality teams have held them in check and that goes for all teams with this strength. the 5 teams I see to be favored SSA, Mt. Carmel, Dominican, Lafayette, and Font. All have strong midfield play and this strength has been shown on many occasions to neutralize a potent striker attack. sokerfan- as for as not being at full strength for the Mandeville Tournament that was the case for probably 70% of the teams their. that time of year many families go on vacation (teams being shorthanded) to spend time with their families and that is why I personally do not put much stock in those game results.
