Should every team from the district be represented or the best players no matter who they play for?

How does your district select their list?

I feel that if you were a coach (unbiased) and were gonna pick an all-star team from your district, who would you want? Thats your All District team. Thats just me.

Dream on. Every team is going to get their players on, regardless of whether there is one dominant team in the district with all the good players. This stuff is all politics anyway. Get used to it.

I don't think it's fair to say that it's "all" politics, and I think it should be pointed out that while all-district/metro/state selections aren't always fair, they aren't always unfair either. In fact, I would venture to say that it's more often fair than unfair, but certainly it's subjective, and like all subjective analysis it's prone to some degree of bias. To just dismiss it as "politics" diminishes the honor for the players who do actually deserve it, and most do.

mysterion, I agree with you that it's more often fair than unfair in the State selections, but there are definitely politics at work at the district levels. I started this tread in order to find out how many districts had total representation and who did it the "earn it and receive it" way.
I agree it is not fair to say it is "all politics".

All State selections are generally more indicative of the "best" of the "best" (larger voter turnout). All district should be a combination of the best from each district team. Unfortunately, in some districts it turns into a "barter" session. When all district coaches don't attend/participate, all district teams become lopsided. Honorable Mention team can be a very large team. In the past years there have been a couple of All State players not represented on their All District lists.

Once upon a time in a land far far away from LA and before soccer came to America, ALL-District players were allocated to teams based upon the team placement. The district winner got the most All-District slots and the number of slots allocated to each team was reduced as district ranking dropped. It reduced politics to the team dynamics because the individual teams determined the All-District players.

Ah! Now that makes sense soccerprofessor! I played little league baseball in that far away time and place. In our league the first place team placed 7 players on the all-star team, second place 5 players, third place 3 players. Below third? Sorry, better luck next year. But of course that was all back before the discovery of self-esteem.

Darn I must have come from another place & time, because when I played baseball, they kept 15 of the 40 who tried out and the rest go home and practice until next year. We were coached by people who had no kids playing, they did it because they loved the game. And for the ALL STAR team the BEST made it, not a certain number from each team according to finish. I guess that came about when the everyone MUST play 2 innings thing came about.
Oh, I get it, lets prepare everyone for the real world by not making things fair. You may deserve it but you won't get it, got it.

To the victors belong the spoils. The winning teams have the best players and that is why they win. Many of the players sitting on the bench of the championship teams are better than the starters of those that also ran.
