Thanks for your opinion Hall. I'm thrilled you watched the players. You'll forgive my contrasting opinion, but I've watched and coached many of them... some for a dozen years and disagree. All the best. Airlinedad, I don't want to be cruel, but without the exchange student, the transfer from Texas and a talented incoming freshman along with sophomore sensation Will Coyer, you guys would probably be looking at 3rd place. I've seen these 'core seniors' you frequently mention play club ball....and well, I'll leave it at that. These seniors definitely aren't the greatest things to come to Shreveport. They have some quality but they don't stand out. Half of them don't start or play a lot on their club team. What I've seen of Abdul is that he holds on the ball a little too much. Matt Hannisee and Will Coyer are their best players without a doubt. They will be a district contender but it will be a GREAT 3 team race!

How many games will Jesuit play out of the state this year? I believe more teams should do this to evaluate younger talent and not have it affect your state rankings.

Problem at the HS level is at most you have 4 or 5 club guys (at least up here) to try and string together the combinations to open up a backline. Airline's guys may not be all world but are solid and athletic and will be more than a match for most high schools direct attack. Shreve and Magnet are the only teams in the district that MIGHT be able to do it otherwise Vikes run the district.

No disrespect to Airline personally. I just all too often see way to many players 'hyped' for all the wrong reasons.
With Airline in particular, I'm only saying that their 'newfound strength' is in their transfers/new players.
Anyway, we'll find out soon enough.

Looks like an exciting year of soccer is ahead. Look out for Northshore in District 6. I believe they are returning almost their entire team last year(I think they graduated 4 seniors?)

Let me just give a little bit of outside back-up to the Airline comments. I seriously think they are severely underrated. I have seen the club team play, and while not all of the Airline players are the best players on the team, many are extremely talented. The tall center mid has shown drastic improvement. The forward lacks real touch skill but is quick enough to tear up any defense. They have one great defender and another who is almost as good. They also have matt hanisee and this abdulla. That is the core of the seniors, and they all play on one club team. The sophomore everyone is talking about can only add to the ability. I think they are going to really surprise some people this year if they get their focus in the right place.

They are senior heavy and have the key ingredient needed for team success...depth. I'd obviously love to see a team from district 1 go deep into the playoffs. But, given both the incumbent talent level and Airline's preseason schedule thus far, I think it is way too premature to be talking about or even implying about a state title. Gotta win district first. As well as do well in the major tournaments (in order to get a good seeding for the playoffs.) No one has denied or refuted Airline as the frontrunner in district 1. Anyone who does would be foolish. But based on past history, a north La team would have to be seriously stacked in order to even have a chance to win state in D1.

What's neat about District 1 is that Airline makes up the core of the CABOSA U18s, While Shreve's core plays the Classic league in Dallas and Magnet's core comprises the U17 club team. All have new additions, some more impacting than others, and yet all capable of sweeping District. Looks like parents will be going to more than just their kids games.

Regarding Shreve's 'core' that's not entirely true. True, a couple of Shreve players play on a U18 D3 Classic League team. A starting freshman and a sophomore play for a Texas based club team. 2 Shreve senior splay for the cabosa U18's. The cabosa u18's have a few good players, but collectively are not strong by La standards. Cabosa u17's (half or more are Magnet players) are good. I believe they beat the U18's in tournament play. If I had to guess they would be a midtable D3 classic team in Dallas. Admittedly that's more speculation than anything else on my part. At any rate, I'm not reading much into the Magnet/Shreve result from Saturday. With Airline the jury is out. But I expect them to be a handful to deal with due to their depth.

Jesuit struggles to finish despite dominating Ben Franklin. Alexandria struggles mightly to Lafayette and loses big.
New top teams in Division I and II on the horizon?
