I haven' seen any footage of it, but apparently Jermaine Jones received a yellow card for dissent in the Schalke v. Galatasary Champion's League match yesterday. According to the on-line commentary, he did the ol' wave the fake card move trying to get the referee to issue a card to an opposing player.
Can we PLEASE make this a trend?? Just once, I would love to see a match at U15 or above where someone doesn't get up off the ground after a tackle (fair or not) and start waving the imaginary card in the air. It would really warm my heart. I have contemplated giving cards for this offense in the past but have never pulled the trigger. Usually, I will issue a verbal warning to the player(s) asking for the card that if they continue to do so, they will be the ones going in the book. I have actually stopped a High School match to tell the parents that I consider asking for a card unsporting and it needed to stop.
Mayber if officials on higher profile matches start issuing cards for this, it will trickle down to the youth matches. One can only hope...

I don't see that as dissent, and listening to commentary by clueless former players probably means he really got a card for simulation by attempting to make the foul look worse than it was

I am for refs issuing cards for dissent. I have seen two with my daughter's teams. One- the girl definitely deserved. She had caught the ball thinking she was out of bounds (not sure about that one but that's what she said). The ref called handling and she slammed the ball to the ground glaring at him.
Second one, girl charges into way smaller girl who has to be carried off field. (Foul was card worthy in my opinion- she definitely played the girl not ball.). Ref told our player if you do it again, you will get a card. Player says yes sir and he carded her. After game, he is at concession area with the mom. She asked him if she could ask a question. He allowed it and she asked if card was for the foul. He said no that the player was disrespectful by saying yes sir. That one still puzzles me. I guess just a misinterpretation- luckily it was only yellow.
