Just curious as to how teams with a losing record still receive votes?

I still don't understand how St. Paul's whose record hasn't changed in 2 weeks is still number one. All these other teams that's played games and won are still ranked behind them and they haven't played a game in almost 2 weeks. Makes no sense.

I think the rankings are supposed to reflect who the coaches think the best teams are, not who has played the most games. Anybody following soccer in LA knows St Paul's is the best team. Just because they play a few out of state games and then don't play during exam week, coaches aren't going to push inferior teams in front of them. Jesuit, CHS - BR, Brother Martin seem to be in the same boat. These schools don't overload year to year on as many games as they can fit in to their schedule. Denham Springs has played 21 games in a little over a month. I am glad the coaches aren't rewarding that kind of quantity and seem to be looking at the quality of the teams. Not to say DHS is not quality, because they are, but they are not better than ST Paul's, Jesuit, Catholic, Brother Martin, etc. I would say that a loss by St Paul's at this juncture should hurt them worse than others because the body of their work would not offset that loss. Idle teams, however, are not worse than they were a week ago.

I'm not saying they aren't a great team, but to me the games give you a chance to prove how strong your team is and show that you do deserve to be the number 1 team. It doesn't mean that you need to overload your schedule or make the kids stress during exams but at the same time they didn't have any games to prove they still deserve that spot. I just feel like their past years of being a very strong team is keeping them at that spot. Just my opinion.

We (Covington), have played and lost to: St. Michael's 2-1 Grace King 3-2 Lakeshore 2-0 Central Lafourche 2-1
All quality teams. We lost to St. Paul 7-0. They are the best team I have seen this year... period. They may lose a match at some point, but it would be a major upset in my book.

I know they are one of the strongest teams in the state. I'm not saying they shouldn't be ranked. I guess I just feel that over the last week without playing a game they haven't proven themselves to keep that number one spot. I just like to see teams fight for that spot, and seeing another team that has played and won against good opponents move into that spot would make the games very interesting.

Including out-of-state games, I believe St. Paul's is now 13-0-1. They had a local game rained out last week as well, and played three games against top-level Mississippi teams the week before.

They are the best team I have seen. I can't speak to every team. Based on what I have seen though, they are number one in my book. Flame away. I wouldn't be surprised if you are a St. Paul student looking to stir the pot. If so, your class mates deserve better. These posts seem on the immature side. If you are truly a supporter of another school, I suggest you watch them play.

Haha no sir not a student at SPS. I am a college student who graduated from MHS. Living in Lafayette has opened my eyes to another dominate team Acadiana, and I know they are the best. I can speak for myself when I say that

I'm sure my posts will be taken down or edited but you can't hide the fact that this is extremely biased voting. Everyone has their opinion of whether they like the voting or not. In the past it had much more impact in that coaches seeding (32 coaches rather than 10) determined playoff positions. This year Power Ratings takes priority. While I don't think those numbers have stabilized yet, it could be worth noting that St. Paul's was high (#2) on the last release of Power Ratings. And that's what will be used to seed this year's teams. D1 Top 10:1. Acadiana 2. St. Paul's 3. Mandeville 4. Brother Martin 5. Sulphur 6. Captain Shreve 7. Bonnabel 8. King, Grace 9. Central Lafourche 10. Denham Springs

Civility civility gentlemen. We can express opinions, strong, ridiculous and otherwise and still be fairly civil. It seems we all love the game.
Coaches ranking is just that.... ranking--Based on who've they played and seen play--what teams they feel are the best in the state. Personally, I've seen quite a few teams, (including SPS, Acadiana, Grace King, Brother Martin, Catholic BR, Lafayette, Mandeville...... but not Jesuit, Denham Springs , Captain Shreve) Of the teams I've seen, SPS is RIGHT NOW far and away the best I've seen. I truly don't believe the current rankings is based on past accolades, but current production. Those other teams I've not see could be better, and all of these teams evolve, gel, get injuries and thus are different creatures as the season progresses. Therein is the beauty of the state tourny.... at the end of the day, the teams have to lace them up and compete for a state title. No one gets to rank themselves into a championship.
So I love the school pride, chest puffing, and back and forth.... but hey let's keep it civil, .... u can dislike the rival, but you don't have to disparage your rivals supporters!

St Paul 1 and any team from 2 to 8 could be rank second and third etc. There is no way Acadiana is going to be above St Paul.

Another St. Paul's rider, let's hear what you have to say about them I just happen to see St Paul's play a couple times..And I also saw Acadiana loose to Bro Martin 2-0 and Acadiana didn't impress me.

St PAULS definitely deserve the #1 ranking and will be the team to beat! I am proud of my team and its accomplishments thus far, however, we do have some room for improvements and growth. We look forward to the challenges ahead and hope we can make a successful run at a championship. Good luck to all teams the rest of the year!

I haven't seen Acadiana (although I am sure they have an excellent squad). I have seen Mandeville, however, and you would be proud of your old school. They are quite good. It will be interesting to see their match with St.Paul.

[brwell Alright well if Yall count those out of state wins for St. Paul's, then we can count the out of state loses for Jesuit.. Personally, I think they should be considered . . . for the purposes of this poll. I know it's not easy to compare out-of-state schools, especially when the primary focus for these coaches is (and should be) their own programs. Just as results from the Showcase this past weekend should be factored in for those schools that played Texas teams, all games should be included. And I'm sure many of the coaches do consider all these games when they do their rankings. I appreciate that these coaches take the time to study and consider all factors when doing their rankings. Bottom line, it is solely their opinion. Makes for good discussion, though!
