We were lucky. We had a few 5:30 games for varsity but none earlier. JV played after. It made for a few late nights but I would rather that than people not getting to watch their child.

This is awesome. Camera guy should be on opposite side to catch the crowd, no?

Thanks for all those who watched and showed the state how much support soccer has. Hopefully we will be broadcasting the games next week. Much more expensive and will need alumni from Mt. Carmel or St. Scholastica to step up!

If you didn't attend the match or watch the stream, this was a dominant effort by SSA. Not many opportunities by Dominican except for a short period at the beginning of the second half. Sr. Brooke Doyle, coming off a high ankle sprain, captained the SSA defense at center back and shut down any opportunity. Three of SSA's goals seemed to be a concerted effort to shoot early as the Dominican keeper, one of the best in the state, was caught off her line on all three. First goal was by Sr. Victoria Quiros, left back. Fought her way through 2 defenders and fired a long volley just over the head of the DHS keeper. Second was a run up the left side by Jr. Samantha Vercher, who typically feeds the ball to the other forwards, but curved a shot from 20 yds into the far corner. Third goal was off a corner, which went well away from the goal and was headed by Fr. Zoe Perrin from 15 yds over the keeper. Last goal was a highlight reel shot as a long ball was played over the DHS defense and was one-touched off the laces by Samantha Vercher over the DHS keeper. SSA settled in on defense for the rest of the match. The depth that SSA has makes it difficult for teams to double team their best offensive talent - Srs. Courtney Robicheaux and Maggie Otillio.

I was able to watch most of this game through the SportsNola stream, and I agree with futbol22 on SSA's impressive performance. I wouldn't say they carved Dominican open at will and created tons of scoring chances, but they were just extremely deep and solid all over the pitch, defended well and were very opportunistic.
I saw all 4 goals and even had the chance to replay them, and I think Dominican will be very disappointed with their defending on the first two. Numerous players were there to crowd out Quiros of SSA after it came out to her from a corner. No one put in a real tackle, Quiros stepped past all of them too easily and looped a ball over the keeper and back down - a shot I still think may have been slightly shanked but was hard to tell. On the second, Vercher made a great run from the left side cutting into the middle of the field, DHS players continued to stand off and allow lots of space until she eventually took advantage with an unchallenged shot to the lower right corner. Coach must have felt his defenders should've made a better attempt to tackle on both goals, and suddenly DHS in a big early hole.
Third goal put it away. Ball comes in outswinging from a corner, Perrin meets it with her head and the ball loops up like a rainbow over the keeper and then back down into the net. Not by any means your textbook powerful header, but again the looping angle can end up very effective if a keeper is slightly off her line.
The 4th goal was VERY pretty, easily the goal of the game. Nice ball played to Vercher, still in the air, and struck perfectly off the volley over the DHS keeper from distance. Simply a great strike.
Dominican came out admirably in the second half, enjoyed a nice period of play early and restored some pride. But SSA was rarely troubled, definitely the better team and deserves to be in the final again. DHS didn't quite have the attacking threat to come back from a big deficit against a team as solid as SSA. Subs came on late for both teams.

I'd also like to say I was very impressed by the quality of the stream and commend SportsNola for bringing it to more fans. Picture was great, sound quality was high, and I enjoyed the commentary. I wonder if this kind of live streaming will continue to become more common in the next several years.
My only frustration was having the stream interrupted about every 5-10 minutes for a 30-second advertisement, which got really old really fast. But I guess I shouldn't complain, since the soccer community was lucky to have this game broadcast live at all.
