From the beginning, these two teams were predicted to be in the State Championship game. SSA is a very strong team with a strong defensive back line. Mt. Carmel is also a very strong team with a strong back line. Mt. Carmel is a lot better than the first time these two team met in the regular season. I think that this game will come down to which team avoids that one mental mistake late in the match. My prediction is 2-1 Mt. Carmel.

As much as I've stated that SSA should've been seeded first, something I still maintain, my gut says 2-1 for MCA. This will be a great game either way, either team could win. A must-see and potential classic. The best possible final in DI. Both teams made huge statements in the semifinals.

First match between these two was at SSA and ended 3-0 SSA. I don't remember MCA having much success on offense, but it was very early in the season. Reasonably competitive for much of the match, but three defensive lapses were taken advantage of by SSA. Should be a good match. 2-1 SSA.

I have seen MCA play a few times this year and they sometimes play below their potential. That "below" still represents some good soccer but far from what they are capable of bringing to the pitch. At their best they are a 2-1 winner in this game.

3-0 SSA. They come to play in these situations. They're used to the atmosphere of a championship as MCA is not. SSA spine in their formation in Robicheaux, Otillio, Moser and Doyle is second to none. SSA will go up 3-0, Robicheaux will move to defense to close it. Good luck to both groups of girls as always though.

In fact they have lost 3 of their last 4. And only once in the last six years have they won comfortably, that being in 2009 over FHS. In 2011 SSA beat Dominican 5-0 or so during the regular season only to lose in the final to them. That being said I do give SSA the edge but history says it will be close.

By looking at SSA's back line, Mt. Carmel will be lucky to get 1 shot in

With all due respect, one game on the SSA soggy thick turf track, 55 min no score. We will see. SS v NS; most club v club; two large private catholic girl schools; Spells a great game. MCA wins 4-2. Too fast too deep and too much talent this time. SSA lucky first time. MCA will score fast like BF scored those 2! once they got the two the 8th grader shut them down

once they got the two the 8th grader shut them down the 'speed' track was just fine vs Dominican. Should be a great match between 2 quality teams. May the best team prevail, sod or turf.

Last six years 2009 SSA v FHS favorite wins 2010 SSA v MCA underdog wins 2011 SSA v DHS underdog wins 2012 SSA v MCA underdog wins 2013 SSA v LHS underdog wins 2014 SSA v LHS favorite wins
This is all my opinion so don't get worked up about my poor handicapping. Point is anyone can win.

I love the discussion. The fact is you can make a strong argument for each team to be in position to win. That usually leads to a great game.

That seems to be a reach to say the least. Being a fan of a team that played both teams this year, I'd say MCA doesn't have anywhere near the offensive firepower that SSA has. If it comes down to one set-piece, than MCA obviously has an excellent chance to score/win. But, in the normal run of play, I think SSA has a distinct advantage and should win this game.

The "experts" have been critical of MCA's lack of offensive firepower all season. All MCA does is play the best possession soccer of any team other than Ben Franklin, distribute the ball to the open players, and force opponents to defend the entire team. Oh, and their back line is pretty stout. Keep underestimating them. They are use to it.

But I do agree with your point. I've watch many a match where the best team doesn't win. Sometimes just unlucky, hitting the woodwork all night. Sometimes one team is lucky and sneaks in a goal that would be saved nine times out of ten. With closely matched teams like these, games are often won on set pieces and those are so unpredictable. I just hope it doesn't go to PKs. That is just brutal for the girls.

I feel as if the group of girls this year is different and they're still carrying motivation from last year. I am all for a good game. I think that if SSA goes on top early, it won't be good for MCA.

SSA the underdog? From the posts and the votes, it looks like the majority is ready to crown SSA champions. I agree anything can happen. That is why they play. I also agree that PKs are brutal. These two teams respect one another. It will be great to see them play. Regardless of who wins, they both earned their spots in the championship.

jesteria - I agree that they could have done a better job with the players' names, but I think they missed Zoe's name because they didn't see the number right. I can't say that I noticed they were any better with the DHS girls' names. I thought they would have at least known Courtney Robicheaux's name, as she should have her third All State honor in this, her senior year.
