If University had won, I think they'd take this one, but since Northlake won, I have to go with St. Louis.
Those guys are just on another level in the postseason almost every year, and having Mason Cook get injured is a huge blow to NLC's chances. That takes away Northlake's biggest speed threat and the St. Louis back line can afford to be really aggressive in their pressing without having him to worry about.
As a comparison, when we played Northlake we drew 1-1 and when we played St. Louis we drew 0-0 (first time) and lost 0-2 (second time).
Coach O always gets more out of his team as the season rolls along. The rest of the Northlake team is also talented and experienced of course, but I think St. Louis has the edge here.
St. Louis is 10-1 in boys title games. That speaks for itself.

Northlake juniors stepped up in the U-High game. Both goals were scored by juniors. I'm going to say Northlake wins in OT 3-2.

Have you seen St. Louis play this year? Have you seen St. Louis play in the last month and 1/2?

Real question. I always wonder what the basis for comments are. I was at the St. Louis/Newman game and was at the game last night. I was just curious if Spectator has seen St Louis play.

St Louis 2-0. Prediction would be flipped if it weren't for injury to Cook. Praying for a speedy recovery Mason. NLC's offense and goal scoring was centered around Mason's pace and ability, don't see the void being filled.

Northlake wins easily. That semifinal game was the championship game basically. Sorry not sorry

Although mason cook is an amazing player, northlake is a team that is able to change strategy very quickly. Just look at all the injuries to major players they've had in the past. I say northlake wins by at least one. If I was St. Louis I'd be shaking in my cleats right now.

Northlake didn't play St. Louis at Copa this year. They were in different groups and St. Louis didn't advance out of the group stage.

You need to get your facts straight before making comments. Shows that you probably don't know what you are talking about, and are basing your comments on emotion and not fact. In any event, the Copa tournament was very early in the season. For those who have seen St. Louis play lately, they know what the real deal is. They are a much, much better team than when they played warrior16/dataexpert in January and won 2-0. My comments are not based on emotion, but on having witnessed it. I encourage you to come out and see it Thursday night.

Not being a highschool player anymore makes it a little harder to stay in the loop sometimes. But it looks like a little bit of emotion went into your post as well. The "shaking in their cleats" part of my post was just a little joke. Just pointing out that some people were underestimating northlake's ability and that losing a star player has happened before and they know how to adjust very well.

Also, I am curious, what type of field does St. Louis have? Are they used to playing/practicing on a large or small field, turf or grass? I know Northlake will be in their prime element at Tad Gormley.

Northlake is more used to playing on turf, but I don't think it'll be a problem for St. Louis.

Much harder for a team used to playing on a big field to transition to small than the other way around. At least that's what I have observed.

We play home games that the Burbank Complex where the fields are the max allowable size. But if we're playing a team that uses a narrow field we'll actually make the practice area smaller during scrimmages to get our boys used to the smaller dimensions in the upcoming game. I think that helped us deal with more direct play a lot this season.
You can't really prepare for The Pit though, as anyone who's been to St. Amant will tell you. That is truly a unique field.

Much harder for a team used to playing on a big field to transition to small than the other way around. At least that's what I have observed. Yeah, for most. However, some teams that are used to playing on smaller fields rely on the kickball method of sending the ball up the field and attempting to outrun the defense (which can be a legitimate strategy in high school soccer ). I hear this is what University did in yesterday's game for the most part, and that near the end of the second half Northelake resorted to this a little as well. When a team like that plays on a large field and uses that method, a technical team that is used to a large field will ususally have no problem defending against that kind of strategy. But if a team is used to a small field and is able to play technical, then giving them a bigger field can improve their play. And, like you said, the reverse is sometimes true.

I agree with warrior16. Five of the Saints starters played on the 2013 State Champion team that won it all at Tad Gormley. The size of the field and the type of turf will make no difference in the outcome of this game. The more wide open and faster the field, the better for St. Louis.
