Can someone explain and/or point me to the rules regarding eligibility (specifically 8th & 9th graders) for varsity soccer at a private school?
Thanks much!

Alright.I buckled down and read the eligibility legalese for LHSAA.
So now I need to ask for help translating. The simple(?) question is whether an 8th grader who lives out-of-district can play varsity soccer. Any advice/experience?

Two questions.
Did they attend the same school for the 7th grade?
Is this school a K-12 school, or something other than a 9-12?

Alright.I buckled down and read the eligibility legalese for LHSAA. So now I need to ask for help translating. The simple(?) question is whether an 8th grader who lives out-of-district can play varsity soccer. Any advice/experience? If the student was already at the school (if the school has a 7th grade, for example), then the answer is probably yes. If you're talking about a new 8th grader at a school, I believe the relevant section is 1.12.3. My understanding is that if it's a situation where someone (who lives in Metairie) goes to a K-7 Catholic elementary school in Metairie for 7th grade, then goes to a Catholic high school in Orleans Parish for 8th grade, he or she would be eligible right away. I'm pretty sure some girls' teams made use of this rule last season. However, there's quite a bit of gray area about "school system" and "a non-public school operated by the same organization/federation." I think it clearly applies to the situation I mentioned (kid at Catholic elementary school going to a Catholic high school), but I don't know to what extent it would apply to schools from other denominations or non-religious private schools. There's also different rules if the student played at another LHSAA school (say a kid transferring from a K-12 school to a 8-12 or 9-12 school).

Talking about an 8-12 Catholic high school. Your scenario sounds applicable, kevin (and I, too, thought some girls teams in a similar situation had 8th graders playing). I'll point the coach to your explanation and rules section. Thanks.

I know some private schools are hesitant to let 7th and 8th graders play. It has something to do with how LHSAA counts them. I think they count as two towards your enrollment number. It can make a difference if you are close to the upper end of your range.
