I will give you one better. There are only 4 teams in our bracket, so instead of playing the prelims, every team automatically is in the semis. That means that if you play the one semi final game and lose, you are out. $600 for one game, now that's a bargain. Our coach didn't say anything about a consolation game for our bracket. We were told that if we lose on Saturday, we will be going home.

Great... Why are they cutting down the number of matches so drastically?
Who comes up with this stuff?

U16 has a play-in game btw two teams, so the loser would go home, but gets $300 back(I believe), winner continues on.
U17 has 4 teams and would play the format outlined in post by JohnGalt.
Either way $300/game is pathetic!

We are U-17. I will check with our coach about the consolation game. Thanks, JohnGalt for the information.

U18 has play-in game as well. In a four team bracket, there are a total of four games with the state making $2400 so that's $600 a game. If you have a play-in game then there are 5 games and the state makes $2700.

Ok I have gotten clarification (if you want to call it that) for the brackets where play-in games are being played.
Only the play-in games will be played next weekend or when ever it has been scheduled to be played.
Brackets with a play-in game cause the Presidents Cup to become a 1 weekend tournament. Therefore, all games are be played the final's weekend in BR.
The winner of the play-in game will then meet up with the other teams in BR and play all the games.
So if your team's age group has a play-in game, only that game will be played and Your team is not playing next weekend in Lafayette, rather you will be travelling to BR for your team's games May 14th.
So your team should get in 3 games at least.
LSA should have posted this somewhere on the schedule page for those age groups with play-in games!

I don't know if we are considered a single weekend tournament now since we were supposed to be playing the weekend before. I asked our coach about a consolation game and he said that LSA didn't say there would one. IF that is the case, then 4 teams, at $600 a piece, that's $2400 for LSA for 3 games.

I've been away for a few years so I'm not aware of all of the changes nor do I have any content on the cost.
BUT I used to be very disappointed that the season meant very little. Essentially everyone would get into playoffs and season finish would determine seedings. But with snaking them thru the 2 brackets, it was a push.
I've long been a proponent of having regular season results drop some out of the end of year playoffs and not playing tournament style for State Cup. I've never been a fan of 3 games in 30 hours.
It sounds like it still needs some work, but as far as determining State Cup finish, I think that it sounds like a move in the right direction to me.

If the regular season was set up where you faced the other teams at least twice each I would agree but some of the older c2 groups are 4 or 5 teams who only play each other once over an 8 month period. Hard to give much meaning to that. And LSA wants every team there so they can rake their $600 in. I like that change. Add some games in for those that feel we need to play every weekend without it being another tourney (which are unfair expectations on players bodies). Teams would need to buy-in to sacrificing those weekends and treat the game like a real league game. I always hated when we would cram it into a tourney. Treat the league games as a bigger deal. Limit the advancement to State Cup. Not have any tourney-style games at state cup. Someone else can debate the price of that process...

We only had four league games total. One of the games we only had 10 there- two families with deaths and 2 players ill. Another player went out with a concussion early in game (I think)- we were one with death in family. I agree that playing each other twice might make the season more meaningful.
Also another point is that State Cup is to move onto the Regional Tournament which is a tournament. Seems like to me- you need to put who can do best in a tournament situation which may or may not be the one that does best in single games spread over months.

President's Cup is 2 games on first day (and I think full games) and then 1 per day. If you only advance the top teams (can debate that cutoff) & play 1 per day, I think you'll better prepare the winner for the larger competitions. The State Cup at the end does allow the teams doing well at end of year to advance, but the results throughout the year are what gets them the opportunity. Feels like a decent balance to me.

I would be more in agreement if there were more league games. I don't think four games over the course of six to seven months are necessarily that meaningful. However, I recognize this could be difficult for some comp1 teams that play regional league and possibly in the Gulf Coast Premier League as well.

Maybe for the younger teams two games would probably work, but with the older teams not so much. My daughter plays on comp 1 U17 and it was pretty tough to get all the girls there to play the 5 games that we had. It looks like LSA is also changing their by-law that if you forfeit a game you are disqualified from tournament play. We actually only played 4 games because one team forfieted on us but is still in the playoffs......So basically in the U17 comp 1 girls....you can go winless, forfeit games or not show up and everyone is in the playoffs. Your only consequence for finishing in the bottom of your bracket is you play your first playoff game at 8 am instead of 230.....and you may have to play 2 games on Saturday. Whether you play a single match or home/away games the regular season is a waste of time!

You are supposed to be out of State Cup if you forfeit a game now. That's been the rule since league started. I can't link but it's pages 52-53 in bylaws. It does have the provision that the club director can file an appeal.
