This is pretty funny to read with hindsight. The underclassmen playing for CHS in the final this year got a lot of good experience playing Varsity as Freshman and Sophomores they wouldn’t have gotten back when this thread was started. Did this change when coach changed? Yes, current coach doesn’t care what class you are in. He plays the 11 best no matter what. He played several freshmen last year. What was taking place at Catholic High prior to the current Coach taking over “was complicated”. There were multiple issues going on, it didn’t all fall on the BRSC Club coach that was the coach at the time.

It does always help when all of the freshman that started last year for CHS were also on the current coach's club team at BRSC. Its easy to work in a new system when you already have players who have played the way the coach wants to play.

He took over the black team the following season.

The rule is Gallstar called for the young lads to be moved up to Varsity back when they were beating the seniors in inter-squad scrimmages four years ago. They’ve been to back-to-back finals, and they are now the first team other than Jesuit or St. Paul crowned champs in 11 years. The funniest thread was when the JV team got reported on vs. Dutchtown. I’m not sure where that thread is, but nearly the varsity came back late and tied Dutchtown. Then the magic show started. Catholic’s JV played keep away from Dutchtown and tapped them out about halfway through the second 30 minute period. They arrived at the game in helicopters, limo busses, etc. Gallstar was summoned to a conference with the Tornado team manager and told to quit covering the JV team. Why? You’re upsetting the seniors and their parents. We sure didn’t want to hurt any feelings but just imagine if your company said keep the mediocre guy because he’s been here longer. Oh wait that’s the teachers union! Pay and play the best 11 or the best worker. That was the point then and this strategy is still alive and well in the real world and apparently it’s alive at Catholic. They’ll be the new standard in Louisiana soccer over the next 10 years. Jesuit is losing ground to Holy Cross and Moser will likely be retiring in the next 2-3 years. JB is young and energetic like Matt and Stu at Holy Cross. He’s gonna challenge all of Moser’s records before he finishes at Catholic.

And what’s the rule on being a club and school coach for only x number of players? Heard different things. I believe that it is 6 maximum (I think). He is coaching 2 BRSC teams - 04Black and 07Black. So, 6 total between both teams. 1 or 2 kids on 04Red are definitely worthy of consideration for Black, but they could not since 04Black has 6 CHS JV/V players on it. Also, there is at least 1 kid on the 07Black team at CHS (8th grade) that wasn't allowed to play on the freshman team due to the rule of 6 max (again, i think that 6 is the limit).

Does the 6 only apply to varsity players? Is this spelled out in LHSAA rule book somewhere specific to soccer? Or does the same concept apply to say school and travel baseball?

I’m not sure about all other sports but the rule is supposedly based on 1/2 of the starting number of players for each sport. 11 players on the pitch divided by 2 equals 5.5 so it is rounded to 6. I do know the rule for basketball is 3 (5/2 equals 2.5 - rounded to 3) so I would assume it would be the same formula for baseball, volleyball, etc.

If I were guessing, there is a reason these teams are 5 years apart 02/07. JB does not coach the Freshman and JV (not sure what the rules are there). Of the 10 seniors half or more did not play Club this year. I know Leonard, Cook, Wilson, Poche and maybe some others only played high school soccer this year.
