Was at the game last night cheering for the hometown Gators. Was not to be. Despite a gutsy effort by the Gators, STP was just too much. On the big field, in front of a supportive crowd and student section, STP would not be denied. STP does an excellent job spreading the field, pinpoint passes and taking calculated shots downfield. The Gators could not relax all game. Any letdown and STP would pounce. Yet again, the depth of talent enjoyed by the private schools was just too much. As STP was able to put quality, fresh legs on the field at will, Coach Adrian and the Gators had to be much more precise. Was impressed with how Coach Adrian, with timely subs for a few minutes at a time, was able to maintain a fairly high level of intensity. STP controlled the pace and possession throughout. Shots on goal were not comparable, as STP consistently harassed the Gators’ back line and goalie- who btw had an outstanding game. Overall, I though the Gators played well to keep the score within reason. And the late goal by the Gators was just a testament to their never say quit attitude. Hats off to the Gators for an outstanding season- you made all of us from BR/Ascension Parish extremely proud. And congrats to Coach Moser and STP for continuing the storied tradition of Wolves soccer.
Go get Jesuit next week and bring the trophy back where it belongs!

I watched it on the stream. Thanks Duckroost. I thought the sTA coach was locked in and totally focused like a chess master. Good subbing. They disrupted SPA in the first half. But Coach Moser countered with frequent subs that I had never seen them do. Kept fresh legs for second half and that was it.. A lot of SPS subs in critical times didn't play much previously.Great team effort.

All those subs played minutes in that game, too. My guess is coach Moser did the same thing during the season which is why he was comfortable putting them in during a semi-final match. Looking at MaxPreps, 20 of their 22 field players have scored a goal.

I thought the bulk of subs were entering after the second goal, then the bench came in quickly thereafter the 3 score midway second half. But I may be wrong because I am wrong most of the time. edit: I checked MacLeod and a lot of most of those subs scoring and playing were in mercy wins or other stompings. I noticed because a friend's not subbed first half at critical time and he was only in for 3 stompings all season. He scored a few goals.

The “number of games played” isn’t correct on Maxpreps. They have played in a lot more games than that.

Their starting left back against Northshore was having issues with our right wings speed and they brought in another quality back to match that speed. They subbed quite frequently and didn’t skip a beat the whole game. SP is probably the best high school team I have ever seen play.

many say only 2 or 3 players from STA would start on STP, but due to personal experiences of colleg soccer etc, the players who do come from these great teams as STP know how to work collectively as a team and very good technically and recognizing where the ball goes but when comes down to athleticism many on that team can not chew gum and walk at the same time. Geesh staalum, now that the season is over, I will address you condescending remark. You do not know what the term athlete or athleticism means. Here is the definition of "athlete": a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina. Now the definition of "athleticism": the physical qualities that are characteristic of athletes, such as strength, fitness, and agility. Notice, no mention of speed or power. St. Amant definitely had the fastest player on the pitch and probably the three most powerful, but they definitely didn't have the most agile and both teams had very fit players. the term strength has three components, power, endurance and flexibility and those are quantifiably measurable. The one place where SPS was head and shoulders above St. Amant was in "soccer IQ". They had a whole team of players who understand how to read the game and adjust on the fly. This is the reason it appeared St. Amant was always chasing. When I was growing up we called those kids who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time "spaz's". Do you know how ridiculous that statement makes your team look? Suffice it to say, SPS proved themselves to be the better soccer "athletes" and the best team in the State this season. Enjoy the off-season.

Sorry for the idiotic comments and I’m sure they were a one post wonder.
