I noticed that Rainbowcycle put in a posting which essentially read, "Does a player need to be a Premier Player to play at the Secondary Level?" Of course, I'm sure that most of you know that the answer to that specific question is no. But it did peak my interest to see that at this point that post has been reviewed almost 200 times with not one response. Out of curiosity, let's take a little bit different of an approach, and I am going to need some help from those of you who participate in this excercise.
I started a poll, with the objective of gathering a bit of information that I am interested in seeing.
I would like to know which team has the most Premier Players on the entire squad of each team, including both JV and Varsity. The poll is only intended to find out what people think or it may be factual, whatever the case may be. But after voting, I would ask that you also include a thread giving the total number of players on the entire squad, including JV and Varsity, along with the number of those players that are Premier. I would also be very interested to find out about the typical starting lineups of each team. So I would also ask that you include the number of Premier Players in the starting 11 in your response thread. I trust that there are those of you that will help me out and are also interested in this type of information...Thanx...

Correct me if im wrong, but i think LHS only has 1 or 2 rec players on thier varsity team. Como on the other hand has one active premier player (jacob). We have about 7 more guys who have played select sometime in thier soccer careers, but thats about it.

We arent in District 3, but I'll give you some insight on our Situation at St Amant. We have 2 current premier players--Zac and Tyler Melancon--who are both starters. The rest of our players are mixed between regular rec+ players, non-regular rec+ players, and the rest just athletes.
Varsity starters: 2 premier, 7 regular rec+ players, 2 athletes. Of the 7 rec+ players, only one has played premier in the last 5 years. I think at least 2 of those rec+ players could play premier--Sebastian Torrado and Jeremy Robert--but both play football, and one plays baseball.
Does it matter? I dont think so. Obviously the teams with the most highly skilled players will be the odds on favorite to win, but I think teams who have a comprehensive year round training and development program organized and overseen by a qualified coach/trainer can be competitive with all other teams. You shouldnt have to have the "premier" label hung around you head in order to play varsity. I know that Sebastian Torrado would have a pretty good chance to start as a forward at any school in the state--and this kid has been playing only rec + his entire life. A good player is just that--doesnt matter what color shirt he wears.

All of Lafayette's starters play premier soccer. Also, just for kicks, only 3 sophmores ( out of 15 ) at Lafayette who play soccer are not affiliated with Premier.

Any rec players on the varsity Ghandi? If so, how many?

Maybe 2 or 3, but they rarely see playing time. This has nothing to do with the sole fact that they do not play premier. They just are not as good as the starters.

I was curious as to how many "select" players that go to Lafayette are actually zoned for LHS as opposed to those who goto LHS because of the gifted program. My experience tells me that many really good soccer players also excel in the classroom. This may be a reason why Lafayette High pulls the majority of the "select" kids.

A very astute observation hdkjga. You are exactly correct, Kevin Carter being at least one of those and there are others. I would be interested in that data also, although I would not say that is the primary variable. And you're right also in your statement about the correlation between academic performance and kids that play soccer. Soccer is definitely a "thinking game." Thank you...

sulphur has 3 all on the burn the rest of the starters except for two didn't even play during the off season but this still doesn't mean these people aren't good i would put money that a few of them could start for any team in district 3

Suprise...I'm going to let it play out a little further and then we'll ask some extremely interesting questions...Any guesses on what we might talk about after finding out that Lafayette has virtually all Premier players...?

PutMeInCoach,
If you would have asked this question 10 years ago, it would show up the same way. Amazing, huh??

most of the lafayette high players play premier for the Burn. ANYONE in the u-18 age group knows that they are incredible and that the only people who can touch them is lakeview, which consists of mostly jesuit guys. nice corrilation between having losts of premier players and having a quilty soccer program at their school....

Who is the Coach of the Burn? And who is the Coach for Lakeview? Anybody ever heard of circular reasoning?

Burn coach is Belfour...don't know about Lakeview.
As for the the Lafayette gifted program...I believe St. Cyr is in the gifted program and lives outside the Lafayette school district.
As for select players, I don't believe that Hardy plays select anymore. Not sure if he played rec in the fall or if he didn't play at all. He left the Burn over the summer, so I would imagine he played rec.

He plays for the greatest team of all time, Soccer Team Soccer. I am supposing here that you are referring to the Coach of the Lakeview squad?
