I for one understand that CoachRay is just supporting his kids. No different than what I do for Shreve and some of the other teams up here. If he doesn't do it, who will? These polls are only for fun. They mean absolutely nothing!! I also want to thank him for what he has done for the kids in his area by supporting youth soccer in every way imaginable. Having done the same thing myself up here, I know how hard it is to find people who are willing to help.
Here is my poll for this week.
Division I 1) Jesuit 2) Acadiana 3) Lafayette 4) Brother Martin 5) Captain Shreve 6) St.Paul 7) Rummel 8) Catholic BR 9) Comeaux 10) Caddo Magnet
Division II 1) Vandebilt 2) Dutchtown 3) Ben Franklin 4) STM 5) Loyola 6) Pineville 7) Salmen 8) Bishop Sullivan 9) East Ascension 10) DeRidder Division III 1) St.Martin 2) Newman 3) University 4) Teurlings 5) Opelousas Catholic 6) E.D.White 7) St.Thomas Aquinas 8) St.Louis 9) St. Fredericks 10) ESA

Well, not much to talk abou the polls this week because there was very little movement. The following are some notables. BM moved up after losing to #1 Jesuit. Ben Franklin moved down without playing (or not reporting the result). Newman stayed the same after losing to #1 St. Martin. Lesson: It's a good idea to play against #1 team. You got to nothing to lose anyway :-).

Do polls do do some good for the programs in louisiana... it gives some teams the motivation, the will, they know who they gotta beat and they wanna get it done... it gives them something else to shoot for, but it's not everything, the playoffs are...
If you had no polls this is what high school soccer would be like... You would play programs, but you wouldn't know what to expect.. You would have no clue how much you need to step up your game to compete with who "the people" think are the best...
While they mean nothing in the long run... It adds some excitement to the regular season and all people who live up north, far south, far west, to where the quality teams are... It also helps coaches decide who they wanna go up against the following year for compitition, because playoffs don't always says who is better then who... It says who is the best in the state... Because if St. Pauls would meet Brother Martin in the first round, a team loses, does that mean they are worse then maybe a lower quality of team that had an easier game??
Bottem line you can't watch every game and it allows the coaches to see who's who and how much they need to improve

i think the polls are great, it gives some measure of how good a team is, though i admit not always accurate. flat 3 said it best that polls are a motivator. as a player in high school and now at he college level its always fun to see if you are in the top ten and try to get the number one spot, it is an honor to be in that top spot and have all the teams gunning for you. i go to the university of central arkansas and we beat the number one team in the country, we celebrated and had it made the game great. i think it gives extra meaning to the games. i dont think it would have been like that if there weren't any polls. and sometimes thought not at this level in this state polls are used for seedings for post season play. so there should be a lot of attention paid to the polls, if nothing else its fun and brings extra meaning to the games.
now with that said, coach ray don't be so upset. look at the other number. mandeville had three votes and you had two, i don't think there is that much difference. if you and mandeville or any of the other teams in one of those last couple of spots would play ten times i bet yall would split it five times.
i would also like to say that i know coach ray personally, and while we may not agree on everything (being as how he coaches for st amant and am a dtown alum) he is a good person and a good coach. he has done a lot for the community down here and should be commended for it. and is very knowledgeable in the world of soccer as anyone who knows him or spends a great deal of time on here would know.
my only critism ray, being that this is a print media, the term would be libel not slander. slander is verbal. sorry just wanted to point that out.

Vandy's other victories include E.D.White (3-0 ), Hahnville (5-2), and Oak Grove, MS (2-1).
I think Vandy's schedule reflects the philosophy: to be a winner, you can't be afraid to play anyone....

I believe Catholic BR is a team that may be in position for a move upwards in the poll as well as making some noise in the playoffs. They have had several key players out for most of the season (as well as other injuries). Despite this they have only lost to three Louisiana teams - Holy Cross 1-2(but outshot them 26 - 10) Brother Martin 0-1 and Vanderbilt at Vanderbilt. They have also beaten St. Pauls 2-0 at St Pauls and Acadiana at a neutral field. It appears they may have found their offense, which was their early season problem (ask Coach Ray) by scoring 4 against St. Amant with a 5th called back. IF, and I know it is a big IF, they can get some key players healthy and continue to find their offense they can play with anyone in the state.

my question is how can a team like st freds win 3 games in row(neville 3-0, ruston 1-0, west monroe 8-0),all shutouts, and still not get any new votes. I know the arguement is that they do not play much competition but neville recently beat parkway and byrd(a decent dII team and a decent dI team), ruston who has beat solid teams (such as loyola and also had a good showing in the Pineville tournament), and west monroe, which they completely destroyed,(beat ash 5-2 and tied caddo 1-1).They also have posted solid wins over ash(2-0), deridder(1-0), and esa(4-2). It is kind of unfortunate that there are not any real strong teams up north they can play. I know polls do not mean anything once playoff time comes around but i am interested to hear a reasoning. This is not a complaint, just a question.

St. Freds definately didnt even play Caddo Magnet this year and I'm sure if they did, the score wouldnt be tied, I'm sure Caddo could pull away with a win atleast 2-0.

None of Neville, Ruston, or West Monroe is ranked. We expect a Top 10 team to beat those teams routinely. Thus, no added credit. Besides, in order for a team to "gain" some votes, other teams have to lose theirs. Since teams just above St. Fred (St. Louis, STA, OC) didn't do anything to lose their votes, St. Fred didn't gain. Come to think of it, however, St. Fred may be entitled to some new votes, since we have no records whatsoever by these three schools after Jan. 2. futebul16 may have a point, after all....

I found Catholic to be very offensive ;D. They have a lot of speed, are well coached and organized, and can score from 4-6 positions. I think spectator is correct--Catholic is very solid team poised to make a run.
Catholic play St Amant again next Wednesday(1/19) at Burbank. As both teams have lost a game date due to Walker disbanding, they should be rested and it should be a good game to watch. Catholic all but secures the District title with a win, and St Amant wants to show they can play CHS better than a 4-2 loss.
