How are these chosen in each division? When i played in Division III everyone but like 0 teams pretty much made the playoffs. What are the requirements to get a wild card? Can a 5th place team in a district such as District 6 in divison 1 get a wildcard? How are they givin out? Thanks ahead.

Answer is no to the 5th place teams. Teams chosen for wildcards have to finish 3rd or 4th in their district, and are selected by their district record. 5 teams can make it from a district if two are tied for 4th. That happened last year I believe. After district record it goes to record in all D1 games , and then overall record. Usually the 3rd place team from every district makes it except for District 2 (only three teams in that district), and then the 4th place from every district except District 9 (only 5 teams-6 i think this year) and one other district with a 4th place team having the worst district record. "3rd and fourth place teams(where applicable) with the best one-lost records in district play shall be selected in descending order until wildcard positions are filled on the bracket"--direct excerpt from LHSSA handbook.

3 will most likely go, the 4th place team would still have to make it based on its district record(if the 4th place team was 5-5, it would be harder for them), but no 5th place teams will go--hard to see where a 5th place team could go. Even if they were from a large district, their overall district record would probably be no better than .500 or 1 game better.
What district are you concerned with?

no district in particular. I just wasn't sure how wildcards were chosen. So basically 3rd and 4th place teams go and if two teams are tied for 4th their is a possiblility that both go?

Coach Ray is correct when he says that no wild card teams are chosen from 5th place teams. If there is a tie for 4th place - a playoff must take place and the winner will be declared 4th place by the district. The loser will stay home. It happened to a very talented St. Paul team 3 years ago. They went 9-5 in district and had to stay home as the 5th place team. They were in a three way tie with Northshore and Slidell and lost their district playoff matches. It was a real shame because those kids deserved to be in the playoffs. I say open it up to 5th place teams. If their district record would get them in - let them play. That was an unusual circumstance though.
