Do you think a player would be shamed if they have an offer from a D2 school and choose to go to a way worse D3 ?

Do you think a player would be shamed if they have an offer from a D2 school and choose to go to a way worse D3 ? They shouldn't be. The main difference with D3 is that they cannot offer athletic scholarships. Often they are very good schools from an academic standpoint. A player should go where they feel they will have the best fit, especially academically. Someone told me at one point when my son was looking at colleges (and I paraphrase here, I don't remember the exact quote): At a D2 school players are playing for an extra $500 in athletic scholarship money. At a D3 school players are playing because they love the game.

Neither of these levels will probably lead to a pro career in soccer. Instead it will lead to a pro career in profession of choice. They should look for the best academic situation that leads to them graduating with the least amount of debt.
Paying an extra $5-$7k a year to play DII vs DIII makes no sense all other factors being equal.

Zero shame. Tons of current D1 players started their collegiate careers at JC's, NAIA, D3, and D2 schools. Coming from Louisiana, D1 is a steep hill to climb from HS. D1 coaches go to the transfer portal to find those players before tapping high schoolers. There is absolute zero shame in starting where the opportunities are. Particularly if you have playing opportunities from the start. So many guys want D1, get it and slog through a brutal training and school schedule only to have to wait til Senior year to see meaningful playing time. Go where it suits your mission, goals, and expectations for your college life.

Do you think a player would be shamed if they have an offer from a D2 school and choose to go to a way worse D3 ? Your post stuck with me, I should have included this in my previous response: find a podcast called Inside College Soccer and listen to episode 21. Myths of College Soccer Special - Recruiting Advice for Players/Parents, then listen to episode 23: Mike Avery - USL2 Coach & Former NCAA D1 Head Coach. Both of these episodes bring the straight and current dope on getting to play college soccer. Tons of great information and perspective in those two hours of podcast.
I have a son playing college and USL2 now and another playing MLS Next and going through the recruiting process now as a HS Junior. It's an ever twisting and evolving process, what's relevant now for my younger boy didn't exist four years ago for my older one, and the things we did four years ago don't really apply now. Where ever you get your guidance and advice, just make sure they are plugged into the current recruiting and college soccer landscape. Whoever is doling out shame, tune them out. They're not worth your time or attention.
