We played St. Louis & I don't remember any outstanding Defender. Usually you have heard of a potential all-American.
But hey congrats to him.

That's because he hasn't played a game this season. He got hurt in St. Louis's last football game with a broken collar bone. Congrats anyway.

Did he play last year, because I don't remember any standouts on St. Louis defense?

It is time for soccer players to get away from playing american football, even as kickers.

I'll be honest. Ed Ellington was a good defender, but by no means is he "all american" material. Not trying to take away anything from him, just answering the original question of the thread. I think what they did is just pick somebody from St. Louis's team last year since they were nationally ranked.

SO WHY NOT JESUIT OR VANDEBILT?
I ASSUME THESE KIDS LISTED ARE PICKED NOT FOR THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER BUT FOR THEIR ODP AND Y LEAGUE DEVELOPMENT AND SUCCESS, CLUB, NOT SCHOOL. I THINK DWAYNE JONES WAS ON THE ALL AMERICAN LIST AND DIDN'T EVEN PLAY HIGH SCHOOL BALL THAT YEAR. I AM NOT SURE, BUT I THINK I REMEMBER THAT HAPPENING.

His coach submitted him. No other coaches entered a player, so he made it. He didn't do ODP or Y-league and is just an average club player. He didn't play on the Burn. He isn't on the top 100 recruited players for colleges so it was mostly political. But congrats anyway.

You are probably right. He is not one of the top players in the state not like Joe Lapira was. What a farce, he was choosen all-american and didnt even play

Actually, he is a great defender. He was one of the four defenders over the last two years that have allowed only 2 goals in the playoffs in route to two state championships. Nominations for the Adidas All-American team is due the fall. And Edward was one of the most deserving players on the two-time defending state champion. But unfortunately, he had to have major surgery when he suffered a major injury in the last game of the football season. There is no doubt that there is more than one player deserving of All-American status.
But before you continue to criticize, the question that you probably need to ask is, "Why doesn't your coach spend the time to nominate the deserving players on your team.?"

Truman:
I saw STL play last year and the year before. The head coach at Notre Dame, who attended the finals last year to see Lapira play, and i am sure many others agree that Miller Flynt or Flint carried that defense. The ND coach said he should have been MVP. I am sure you were at that game as well, and I did not see any one else on defense stand out in that game or any other time I saw STL play over the last two years. All-Americans have to be tremendous players, and I agree with the others on here that Ed Ellington is not one of them.

I don't think anybody's denying that Ellington was a great defender.
Does anybody know the process they go through to choose the All American team? I'd love to know. And how does the coach of a team become elgible to nominate one of his players for the all american team? Is it if you are nationally ranked, or if you've won a state championship in the previous year?
