Well, I was waiting for someone else to start the chatter but I guess I will. It feels like less and less people are on these boards but let’s get it started to see if we can strike up some healthy conversation.
How about a way, way , way to early state championship game predication thread . This will be fun to come back to once the dust has settled , coaches have figured out their puzzle pieces , and each teams starting 11 has been finalized . I plan to breakdown a few of these teams individually, but we have a lots of time to do that.
Division I- SJA vs Mt Carmel
Everything thing I have seen and heard tells me one thing……SJA is back and better than ever. Two dominant scrimmages and a mercy rule victory has them already in the right direction. Losing five seniors is never easy but this may be a more complete team than last year . I know I call STM the "Machine" , but it may be SJA who takes that title in 2023/24 . The question will be …….who will get to see them in the finals? I’m going with Mt Carmel who lost in the playoffs last year 3-2 to SJA. I see a rematch of the two brewing in a game for all the marbles at the very end.
We cant just forget about Dutchtown either. They will remain a top seed and many will want to see if they can get back in the big game.
Division II- STM vs Tuerlings
All I hear is this STM team won’t be like the teams in the past over in Cajun Country. I don’t buy it. Yes , they lost an absolute abundance of talent , but they still have some studs ready to go. One huge injury in the off-season didn’t help but when you have a history of winning , it’s hard to forget how to. Not having Lakeshore in the championship vs STM just doesn’t feel right but I’m going on a hunch.
Division III - PBS vs St Mikes.
All I can say is each team is LOADED with talent. Is this the year St Mikes can get healthy and put it all out on the pitch? I personally think this is the year we see them in the big game. As far as PBS goes……it’s all eyes on them as they are the favorite coming into the season. New eagles to the nest will play some very important roles as others get back to full strength. One other team to keep an eye on is University High. A really young team a year ago, one can only assume another year playing together finds them even stronger. The district in Baton rouge is loaded and will be fun to see things shake out.
Division 4 - Episcopal vs Loyola.
I think Episcopal reaching the big game and falling short last year will have them motivated from the start to get back. Lead by their TCU commit, second place for the second year is a row won’t be settled for. Loyola not being in the big game last year was a bit of a shock to most . I’m looking for another dominant regular season as they look to lock down a 1 or 2 seed again going into the playoffs.
It’s fun to have high school soccer back on the field. Good luck to all the teams this year. Hope we can get this board started again.
