As we get closer and closer to the playoffs, we are getting a clearer picture of each team. Here is the top 10 after week 10!
1)STM (22-0-1) The streak continues as it pushes to 64 games for the Cougars. Wins over SSA, Lakeshore, Dominican and Mt. Carmel in the past two weeks make the Cougars the undisputed #1 ranked team this week. One final regular season test will be Jan 29 vs the Redstickers of SJA.
2)SJA (18-0-2) The number power ranked team in Div I continues to impress..... Just not as impressive of a two weeks as STM. SJA would play SSA to a draw which could be preview of the state championship game in Hammond a month from now?? Newman and STM await as the regular season winds down.
3)PBS (19-0-1) The eagles continue their dominant run since hoisting the Trophy in Hammond last year. The train is rolling and two teams stand on the track! Do they derail it or does it choo choo along into the playoffs. St. Michaels is up first. Should be one fantastic match Monday at 5pm.
4)SSA (13-2-4) I think I am getting a better understanding of the Doves as we move along. Playing SJA to a draw is impressive and the STM game was very close. SSA would have a 1-0 lead over the Cougars but STM would get them in the end. Mandeville is up next for the Doves.
5)Episcopal (16-0-1) What more can I saw about Episcopal. One of the last unbeatens in the state, nothing stands in their way of an undefeated regular season. I'm not sure why the Hannan game is postponed but I sure hope they play it.
6)Mandeville (16-5-4) The Skippers join the top 10 for the first time all year. Winners of their last five, Mandeville seems to be trending up.
7)Capt Shreve (16-3-0) The weather would postpone the anticipated Caddo game for Shreve. They get the PJP win last week but fall to Hannan by a score of 5-0. Bounce back game vs a familiar foe with the talented Loyola Prep who is on the cusp of the top 10.
8)St. Michael (10-4-3) Healthy, ready and hungry. We haven't seen this Warrior squad as complete as we do right now. They break the curse against U High and have the battle of South Baton Rouge tomorrow at 5pm. The warriors win and they claim the district five championship.
9)Sacred Heart (12-2-4) Big names like Dominican and SSA are the only two loses on the season for them.
10)Southside (16-2-4) Three easy wins for the Dolphins since the SSA draw and they hold on to the 10 spot.
The next four
Newman - I think the gauntlet of a schedule finally caught up to the Greenies. Watching them in person, I just felt this wasn't the Greenie team I had been hyping up this whole year. Their last game was on the 18th. They should have fresh legs going into the SJA match up.
Loyola Prep - Still a top force in Div 4. I still expect a final four matchup with some teams above.
Dominican - The loss to STM is understandable. The loss to Bryd was a possibility. The draw vs Baton Rouge Magnet is head scratching. Bounce back games against Carmel and Ben Franklin could get them back as a top 8 power ranked team.
Mt Carmel - Three big games ahead. Will they stay in the top 8 in power points??
Who ya got?
